Job summary

ASPM - All Service Plastic Molding is seeking a skilled machinist to lay out, machine, fit, assemble and finish metallic and non-metallic details for molds, dies, fixtures, and gauges. The role relies on knowledge of mold and tool design, layout, machining, and assembly procedures.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, setting up and operating milling machines, grinders, EDM, lathes and drills, using precision inspection tools, and maintaining safety while working with heavy shop

Qualifications

• Experience reading blueprints and planning machining sequences.
• Ability to use precision inspection tools (micrometers, calipers).
• Ability to work with algebra and trigonometry.
• Able to operate forklifts or basic shop equipment.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints to determine efficient machining procedures.
• Set up and operate milling machines, surface grinders, EDM, jig grinder, radial drill, lathe, drill press, and cranes.
• Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances with inspection tools.
• Communicate with lead moldmaker for operation sequence priorities.
• Operate forklift (license required).

Lays out, machines, fits, assembles and finishes metallic and non-metallic details for the production of molds, dies, fixtures, and gauges, utilizing knowledge of mold and tool design, layout, machining, and assembly procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Studies blueprints to determine the most efficient procedures for machining details.
• Communicates with lead moldmaker, who plans the sequence of operations by priorities.
• Sets up and operates milling machines, wet and dry surface grinders, manual EDM, jig grinder, radial drill, lathe, drill press, and cranes.
• Uses various electric hoists and air powered hand tools.
• Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances, using surface plates, indicators, gauge blocks, micrometers, and calipers.
• Uses V-blocks, sine plates, angle plates, grinding vises, Cadillac gauges, spin fixtures, radius dressers, sine bars, and parallels to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Assembles details to complete a mold.
• Communicates with co-workers and supervisors to receive instructions.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts of fundamentals of algebra and trigonometry.
• Operates forklift (requires license).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, moving equipment, mold components and operating machinery; fumes and airborne particles (dust and mist), with exposure to oils, cutting fluids, cleaning fluids, solvents, and rust preventatives. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
