JTEKT Column Systems North America is seeking a skilled Molding Operator to efficiently operate molding equipment for automotive directional control components. The role requires following mold change instructions, performing setup and teardown, and maintaining safety and quality standards on the production floor.

The operator will troubleshoot, monitor quality, and coordinate with R&D to ensure parts meet requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience as a molding operator preferred.
  • Ability to follow mold change and setup instructions.
  • Must operate a crane and perform daily inspections.
  • Mechanical aptitude or background preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and tear down molding equipment and maintain clean area.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain molding equipment for quality output.
  • Coordinate with production and R&D to meet specs and adjust as needed.
  • Provide molded components on time to keep schedules.
  • Manage raw molding materials for traceability and contamination control.
  • Draft and perform mold validations.
  • Operate production equipment as directed by Team Leader.
  • Perform quality checks and preventative maintenance as required.
  • Complete pre-operation checks and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Serve as back-up Team Leader when needed.

Description

1 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Production Team Leader.

2 PURPOSE

2.1 Function

2.1.1 To efficiently operate Molding equipment and machines used in the quality manufacture of automobile directional control system components.

2.2 Authority

2.2.1 Responsible for all aspects of the molding process.

2.2.2 Associates have the authority to stop the production process for quality concerns and safety issues.

2.2.3 Associates have the authority to initiate a Non-conformance report for daily line rejects (scrap / teardown recording).

2.2.4 Associates have the authority to document and disposition non-conforming material with an existing scrap or rework code.

3 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 Set-up and tear down of equipment;

3.2 Troubleshoot and maintain molding equipment;

3.3 Work with production associates and R&D to ensure molded components meet requirements, making adjustments as required;

3.4 Provide molded components in a timely manner in order to ensure production schedules are met;

3.5 Manage raw molding materials in a way that ensures traceability and prevents contamination;

3.6 Drafting and performing mold validations;

3.7 Operate production equipment as assigned by Team Leader.

3.8 Perform quality checks as required in the product process.

3.9 Perform preventative maintenance as required.

3.10 Perform pre-operation checks on machines and equipment.

3.11 Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

3.12 Will serve the role as back up Team Leader

3.13 Other duties as assigned.

5 SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Requirements

6 WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May occasionally work in hot or cold temperatures. May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.

7 QUALIFICATIONS

7.1 Require high school diploma or G.E.D.

7.2 Must be a team player.

7.3 Must be trained as Molding Operator

7.4 Must be able to follow mold change and set up instructions for the machines and PM molds

7.5 Must be able to operate the crane as well as complete daily inspections

7.6 Prefer individuals with mechanical backgrounds or has mechanical abilities.

8 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

8.1 Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks.

8.2 Must be able to lift up to 32 pounds at a time.

8.3 Must have manual dexterity in order to assemble products or machines as directed.

8.4 Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.

8.5 Ability to differentiate between colored wires, tabs, and electronic components.

8.6 Must wear gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and ear protection, per the Elemental Operations Instructions Safety Points.

9 POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position regularly requires extended hours and possible weekend work.

10 TRAVEL

Travel may be required.
