POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lee’s Summit Molding department is responsible for the manufacture of plastic food containers using injection molding, thermoforming, and in-mold labeling (IML). The Molding department runs a 24/7 schedule with continental 12-hour shifts.

The Lee’s Summit Molding department is responsible for the manufacture of plastic food containers using injection molding, thermoforming, and in-mold labeling (IML). The Molding department runs a 24/7 schedule with continental 12-hour shifts. Reporting to the Lee’s Summit Molding Manager, the Molding Shift Supervisor’s responsibility is to provide leadership and coordination of all shop-floor functions and activities for their shift to meet safety, quality, delivery ,and cost targets and to foster a working environment that is fair, equitable and driven to continuously improve. The Shift Supervisor will manage training and development efforts, reporting, staffing, and metrics for the shift. The Molding Shift Supervisor will provide oversight to more than 30 team members including Packers, Material Handlers, Machine Operators, Mixers, Process Technicians, and a Cell Lead.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

Monitor and Ensure Health & Safety /SQF / 5S Compliance
  • Act as the leader and subject matter expert for the shift.
  • Ensure all team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner using the appropriate PPE when applicable. Provide the training and correction when appropriate.
  • Lead accident/incident investigations and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards.
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.
  • Regularly audit the Shop Floor to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented.
  • Respond to Customer concerns using an RCA methodology and the appropriate documentation that will allow a response in the allotted time frame.
Manage Shift Personnel (Training, Staffing, Scheduling, and Performance Management)
  • Ensure that all team members are treated in an equal and fair manner, abiding by the company Standards of Conduct.
  • Ensure that each shift is adequately staffed to meet the production requirements.
  • Identify vacancies and work with the Molding Manager to use Temporary labor or recruit and hire as required.
  • Identify training opportunities; manage the training plan and keep the Training Matrix up to date.
  • Ensure adherence to standard work and provide timely feedback.
  • Ensure cross-training and back-up support is adequate.
  • Manage the vacation schedule for all direct and indirect employees.
  • Manage and report absences, overtime, personnel moves and other exceptions.
  • Manage the Performance Improvement program including:
    • Dealing with issues and providing timely feedback.
    • Maintaining proper notes and documentation of issues and interactions.
    • Providing proper information to HR.
    • Coaching and counseling Team Members as appropriate.
  • Manage activities of Modified Duties personnel on the shift.
  • Ensure Team Member information is correct and up to date
Support and Drive Continuous Improvement
  • Identify improvement opportunities and participate in establishing the performance metrics and the CI program for the Department.
  • Champion the Continuous Improvement (CI) program to the Shop Floor.
  • Facilitate implementation of changes on the shift.
  • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in specific Continuous Improvement (CI) projects and establishment of Standard Work.
  • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in Kaizens.
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture.
Training
  • Responsible for training Team Members on cGMPs, Food Safety (SQF) and Quality procedures.
  • Oversee and lead the Mentor Program for the shift.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Educational Requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Post-secondary degree or diploma preferred.

Minimum Experience/Field: Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a fast-paced, high volume Lean Manufacturing environment. Experience working in plastics or in an injection molding facility.

Additional Education/Experience/Skills: Proventrack record of delivering performance results based on company KPIs. Ability to effectively coach, manage, train, and support Team Members. Knowledge of injection molding manufacturing. Knowledge of packaging operations.

Strong interpersonal and people management skills.

Good PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
