Job summary

SMC Ltd. in Wisconsin seeks a Mold Technician to set up, start, and troubleshoot injection molding lines, including molds, robots, dryers, and related equipment.

The role mentors Level One and Two Mold Techs and supports continuous improvement on the production floor with strong attention to process parameters and quality collaboration. Applicants should have a High School Diploma, mold tech training, and at least 1 year of thermoplastic/LSR set-up experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have completed SMC Mold Tech Level One and Two requirements.
  • RJG Fundamentals, Interpreting Graphs, Decoupled II Molding classes completed.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Thermoplastic/LSR machine set-up and SMC training.
  • Knowledge of IQMS and material handling systems.
  • Molds cleaning and proper handling for production runs.
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, start, and troubleshoot injection molding processes; interface with QA and Tool Room as required.
  • Inspect and treat molds after production runs; report mold issues via MRO.
  • Monitor processes using RJG and Priamus equipment; troubleshoot production problems.
  • Record process parameters in IQMS SPC format.
  • Maintain a production floor in tour-ready condition; ensure machines run per schedule.

Setup, startup, and troubleshoot IMM, Robot, Secondary equipment, and processes. Position mentors and coaches Mold Tech Level One and Level Two.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up, start, and troubleshoot a variety of injection molding processes; molds, robots, dryers, mold heat/cool, and runner controllers and auxiliary equipment, interface with QA, and Tool Room as required.
  • Assure molds are inspected and properly treated (cleaning, moisture prevention) after product run; communicate mold problems and opportunities to tool room via Maintenance Repair Order (MRO).
  • Possess working knowledge of process monitoring equipment, i.e. RJG and Priamus brands.
  • Troubleshoot common production problems, identify root causes and recommend or implement solutions.
  • Acquire and Record Process Parameters in IQMS SPC format.
  • Maintain tour ready production floor
  • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Perform all requirements of Mold Tech Level One and Two job description.
  • Understand and verify proper mold protection settings based on Level 1 and 2 training.
  • Monitor the process, start up and shut down of assigned jobs. Follow schedule and maintain machines running at documented cycle.
  • Setup of secondary equipment, to include, but not limited to end mills, hot stamping, pad printing, etc.
  • Mentor and train Mold Technicians Level One and Two.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have successfully completed all SMC Mold Tech Level One and Two Requirements.
  • Successful completion of RJG Fundamentals, Interpreting Graphs, Decoupled II Molding classes.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in Thermoplastic/LSR machine set-up and completion of SMC set-up training program.
  • Knowledge of IQMS.
  • Knowledge of the material handling system.
  • Knowledge of molds and ability to clean them for production run.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt to constant changes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
Desirable Qualifications
  • SMC Overhead Hoist certified.
  • SMC Pallet Jack certified.
  • SMC Lock Out, Tag Out certified.
  • Knowledge of IQMS.
  • Knowledge of the material handling system.
  • Knowledge of molds and ability to clean them for production run.
ADA Requirements
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Grasping, Talking, and Hearing.
  • Ability to work for extended periods sitting and looking at computer while completing repetitive motions to include substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
