Job summary

DRS Industrial is seeking a Mold Designer responsible for creating accurate and efficient tooling designs to maximize production efficiency and profits. You will develop 3D CAD mold designs from customer models, ensuring all features meet standard prototype and low-volume tooling requirements.

You will also produce graphic drawings for communication with customers, manage BOMs, coordinate material acquisitions, and participate in design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D CAD mold designs from customer CAD models.
• Mold design must include all required features, detailed per design standards for standard prototype tooling and low volume production tooling.
• Produce graphic materials/drawings as required for communicating design issues with customer.
• Complete the Bill of Materials and coordinate the acquisition of any secondary materials required for Tool Build/Functionality with applicable departments.
• Attend internal design review meetings.
• Eliminate waste wherever possible and offer suggestions for alternative designs to the Tooling Manager and Program Manager assigned to the part/job.
• Design tools that meet the customer parameters and that the quoted cost and timing of the tools and production process meet the DRS estimate/quote.
• Ensure designs are completed within the time allotted in the estimate. Track actual performance to estimated times for completion. (KPI)
• Perform design feasibility studies

Job description

The Mold Designer is personally responsible for accurate and efficient tooling design, in order to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop 3D CAD mold design from customer-supplied CAD model
• Mold design must include all required features, detailed per design standards for standard prototype tooling and low volume production tooling
• Produce graphic materials/drawings as required for communicating design issues with customer
• Please complete the Bill of Materials and coordinate the acquisition of any secondary materials required for Tool Build/Functionality with the applicable departments. (I.E., Purchasing, Molding Department, Mold Makers, etc.)
• Attend internal design review meetings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance
• Occasionally work in a production environment to support the production and tooling departments.
• Ability to sit, stand, bend or squat frequently
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. when needed
