Qualifications

  • Five to eight years of advanced medical laboratory technician experience.
  • At least three years in Mohs histotechnologist role.
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages other Laboratory Managers, Supervisors, and staff on technical and critical strategic issues.
  • Creates schedule and monitors efficiency of staff within the Mohs laboratory.
  • Supports the health team in direct patient care decisions under the supervision of MD.
  • Trains staff in laboratory safety and specimen preparation.
  • Accounts for patient specimen identification logs.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and materials in the Mohs laboratory.
  • Responsible for departmental statistics, and coordinates collection and preparation as required.
  • Prepares laboratory documentation for CLIA, CLEP and OSHA.
  • Records daily temperatures, Quality Assurance and Quality Control for all laboratory specimens and equipment.
  • Implements approved policies and procedures to assure patient care compliance.

Receives, grosses and prepares tissue for microscopic evaluation. Maintains standards and ensures delivery of safe, quality patient care and services.

Directs and coordinates through subordinate management personnel, all technical activities and functions within the Mohs laboratory areas. Receives, grosses and prepares tissue for microscopic evaluation. Maintains standards and ensures delivery of safe, quality patient care and services.

Responsibilities
  • Manages other Laboratory Managers, Supervisors, and staff on a wide range of technical and critical strategic issues aimed at enhancing brand integrity and improving quality.
  • Creates schedule and monitors efficiency of staff within the Mohs laboratory.
  • Supports the health team in the direct patient care decisions under the supervision of MD.
  • Work with Mohs fellowship participants to train staff in laboratory safety and specimen preparation.
  • Accountable for patient specimen identification logs.
  • Maintain and review all laboratory equipment and material in the Mohs laboratory.
  • Responsible for all departmental statistics, and coordinates collection and preparation as required.
  • Prepare all laboratory documentation and materials for CLIA, CLEP and OSHA.
  • Record, maintain and review all laboratory logs and manuals on day of use.
  • Record daily temperatures, Quality Assurance and Quality Control for all laboratory specimens and equipment.
  • Implement approved policies and procedures to assure patient care compliance.
  • Accountable for Proficiency Testing for accuracy is completed and sent to dermatopathology for independent evaluations once every six months.
  • Assure that Mohs surgeon(s) perform reciprocal slide reading together with dermatopathology once every six months.
  • Coordinate with the Department of Environmental Health & Services to conduct a yearly audit to help improve and maintain safe laboratory practices.
  • Makes decisions and changes to ensure a safe laboratory environment according to CLIA, CLEP and/or OSHA requirements (i.e. wear protective clothing items such as gloves, protective eye wear, etc.).
  • Reports any laboratory accidents and/or incidences in a timely manner using Hospital Occurrence Reporting Form.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma; Associates Degree preferred
  • Five to eight years’ of advanced medical technician laboratory experience. Three years’ experience in the Mohs histotechnologist
  • NYS License - Clinical Laboratory Technologist preferred

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $127044 - $190565 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
