Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi‑Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit has an exciting career opportunity for a Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer – Level 2 or 3 (Kinematic Mod/Sim Systems Engineer) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role is located on‑site at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO, and requires daily onsite presence with no remote or hybrid option.

Essential Functions
  • Develop ballistic and advanced/hypersonic kinematic threat models for use with various modeling and simulation tools/frameworks/media.
  • Apply standard engineering and mathematical algorithms to accurately portray missile or space launch vehicle behavior during all flight phases.
  • Research, interpret, and verify parameters required to build, replicate, and propagate trajectories, including staging debris, countermeasures, and payload traits.
  • Author highly technical Verification and Validation (V&V) documents.
  • Work independently or as part of a product delivery team, meeting critical delivery schedules.
Basic Requirements
  • Relocation assistance may be available.
  • Clearance required: Secret at the time of application; ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer – Level 2:
    • Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 2 years of relevant experience, or 0‑2 years with a Master’s degree.
  • Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer – Level 3:
    • Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant experience, or 3 years with a Master’s or 1 year with a PhD.
  • Programming background in MATLAB, Python, and LaTeX.
  • Strong knowledge of flight characteristics and motion of ballistic missiles.
  • Self‑motivated, dynamic team player.
  • Ability to collaborate with systems engineers, software engineers, users, and MDA ground test stakeholders.
  • Familiar with Computer Aided Design tools and models.
  • Experience with Verification and Validation (V&V) of vehicle kinematics simulation results.
Preferred Requirements
  • Strong math, physics or engineering background.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and automation.
  • Previous work with flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles.
  • Strong background in missile system engineering performance.
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory generation, counter‑measures, and debris.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
Salary & Benefits

Primary Level: $83,400.00 – $125,200.00. Secondary Level: $103,600.00 – $155,400.00. Salary is based on scope, responsibilities, education, experience, and market conditions. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and for certain positions, long‑term incentive plans. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation or personal business.
