Job summary

Carmeuse is seeking a shift-based maintenance technician for 1st shift, starting pay $29.90 per hour. The role conducts inspections, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on quarry and production equipment including dump trucks, excavators, dozers, loaders, forklifts, graders, and trailers.

You will use CAT training and Caterpillar S.I.S. to diagnose parts, work with contractors, and follow manuals; strong troubleshooting and computer skills are needed.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of CAT training.
  • Must be able to use Caterpillar S.I.S. to diagnose and order parts.
  • Capable of working closely with contractors.
  • Intermediate to advanced trouble shooting abilities.
  • Intermediate to advance computer skills.
  • Read & Use operator’s manuals and fill out simple reports such as pre-shift inspection forms.
  • Carry out simple oral & written instructions & deal with simple problems from standardized situations.
  • Safely complete other assigned training.
  • Safely meet the supervisor’s standards of performance.
  • Safely fill in as needed during vacation, absences, and increased production demands.
  • Safely replace or assist other workers as needed.
  • Safely perform other tasks as assigned by supervision or designated lead person

Responsibilities

  • Capable of identifying the type of application and operating systems required to perform visual inspections and diagnosis for troubleshoot resolution and performing general and preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment typical to quarry and production plant environments.
  • Carry out general and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Inspect and diagnose equipment such as dump trucks, excavators, dozers, loaders, forklifts, graders and trailers.
  • Identify required operating systems and applications for diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with contractors and order parts using Caterpillar S.I.S.
  • Read operator manuals and complete simple inspection reports.
  • Follow supervisor instructions and perform assigned tasks safely.

Shift: 1st Shift

Pay Starting: $29.90 per hour

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Capable of identifying the type of application and operating systems required to perform visual inspections and diagnosis for troubleshoot resolution and performing general and preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment typical to quarry and production plant environments. Equipment includes but is not restrictive to dump trucks, excavators, dozers, front-end Loaders, forklifts, graders, tractor & trailers, and pick-up trucks, etc.

Possesses working knowledge of equipment components includes, but not limited to:
Air Supply and Auxiliary Air Systems and all components
Clutches and Transmissions
  • Clutch systems, manual transmissions/transfer cases, torque converters, lock-up clutches, powershift transmissions, powershift transmission electrical, electronic controls, hydrostatic transmissions, and all components
Drive Shafts, Drive Axle Assemblies and Final Drives
  • Drive shafts, drive axle assemblies, final drives and all components
Earth Moving Equipment, attachments and components Engine Systems:
  • Cooling systems, engine lubricating systems, fuel delivery systems, cylinder heads, engine blocks and all components
Engine Management Systems:
  • Fuel control systems, mechanically and electronically controlled diesel engine tune-ups and all components
Exhaust, Intake and Emission Control Systems
  • Exhaust, intake systems, turbocharger/blower systems, emission control systems and all components
Electrical Systems – Starting and Charging
  • Batteries, starting systems, charging systems, electrical and electronically controlled systems and all components
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems and all components Hydraulic Systems
  • Mechanically actuated hydraulic systems, pilot/pneumatic pressure-actuated hydraulic systems, electrically and electrically controlled hydraulic systems, and all components
Steering Systems
  • Steering systems, steering clutches/brakes, braking Systems, mechanical/hydraulic braking and air braking systems and all components
Suspension Systems and all components
Tires, Wheels, Frames and Undercarriages and all components
Weld, Braze and Solder
  • Set up and operate electric welding equipment, gas welding and cutting equipment
  • Read, interpret and apply all applicable welding symbols
  • Lay out, tack and fabricate materials
Housekeeping Other miscellaneous duties assigned by management
