Job summary

Sea Island Land Development is seeking a safety-focused Equipment Operator/Technician to join our heavy civil and land development team in the Lowcountry. The role requires performing preventive maintenance, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring a safe and organized worksite.

The ideal candidate will have experience with excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and related machinery, plus the ability to read technical instructions and work well within a team while remaining capable of independent

Qualifications

• Safety is a top priority every day on the job site.
• Preferred CDL (Commercial Driver License).
• Inspect shop and worksite daily to ensure a safe workplace.
• Communicate effectively with Fleet Manager, Superintendents, Foreman, Safety.
• Read and understand technical instructions, diagrams and specifications for repairs.
• Readiness to work in a team atmosphere and lead by example.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems and electrical systems.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Physically capable of lifting 5–50 pounds and working in adverse weather.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety at shop, site, and vehicle areas.
• Keep service truck, shop, and worksite clean and organized.
• Coordinate with Fleet Manager and supervisors; relay safety information.
• Perform preventive maintenance: greasing, fluid checks, and filter changes.
• Operate and maneuver heavy equipment for testing and repairs (excavator, backhoe, skid steer, bulldozer etc.).
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults; seek technical information as needed.
• Demonstrate leadership and teamwork; work with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safety
  • Inspect shop and worksite daily to ensure a safe workplace
  • Responsible for accessible, clean & organized service truck/shop/work site
• Communication
  • Communicate well with Fleet Manager, Superintendents, Foreman, Safety
  • Communicate well with part suppliers, vendors, and other external customers
• Equipment Management
  • Perform preventive maintenance (including greasing, checking & maintaining oil/fluid levels, filters, etc.)
  • Proper use, care, and storage of shop inventory and small tools
  • Immediately report equipment problems to Fleet Manager
• Equipment Operation
  • Ability to operate and maneuver heavy equipment for testing and repair: to include excavator, rubber tire backhoe, mini-excavator, skid steer, bulldozer , off road trucks and farm tractors.
• Skills/Ability
  • Ability to trouble shoot and diagnose equipment problems/failures
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and make repairs
  • Aggressively seeks technical information & support to do repairs
  • Ability to read and understand technical instructions, diagrams and specifications to do repairs
• Leadership
  • Exhibit leadership qualities and set an example for other crew members to follow
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others in a TEAM ATMOSPHERE
  • Works independently and requires minimal support or assistance
• Physical Requirements
  • Must be physically able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Work involves sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to fifty pounds
  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
