Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a GIS Field Technician to support site surveys and geospatial data management in Atlanta, GA. You will input, update, and inspect GIS databases and layers, using high-precision GPS equipment and ESRI Field Maps to map stormwater systems in outdoor environments.

The role requires comfort working outdoors, physical stamina for long days, and adherence to safety protocols. A Geography degree is desirable but not required; travel up to 50% statewide and a valid driver's license

Qualifications

• College degree in Geography or related field is desirable but not required.
• High school diploma and/or trade school diploma.
• Basic knowledge and work experience using GPS receivers and ESRI products (Field Maps – Arc Collector).
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time statewide.
• Valid driver's license with clean MVR report.

Responsibilities

• Input, update, inspect and maintain GIS databases, layers, tables and links in the geospatial database.
• Perform mobile GIS/GPS field work to map stormwater systems using Trimble GPS and ESRI Field Maps.
• Work outdoors daily in varying terrain and weather, while following field protocols.
• Troubleshoot problems as they arise and adhere to health and safety procedures.
• Physically capable of long days, heavy lifting, and using brush clearing tools where needed.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Physically locate, input, update, inspect and maintain GIS databases, layers, tables and links within the geospatial relational database.
• Perform mobile GIS/GPS location work in the field, mapping stormwater systems and recording the relevant attributes using high-precision Trimble GPS mapping equipment and ESRIs Field Maps app to collect and manage digital data on an iPhone, Android or tablet device.
• Work outdoors daily, maneuvering amongst biological hazards, rough/uneven terrain, steep hillsides, creeks, remote areas, and heavily traveled roadways, commercial, secured, and residential properties.
• Be self‑motivated, environmentally conscious, hardworking, organized, detailed oriented and able to troubleshoot problems as they arise.
• Health and Safety conscious work ethic and follows field protocols.
• Field work is very labor intensive at times and requires critical inspection data entry protocols to be followed and adhered by daily.
• Be physically fit, nimble, enjoys working outdoors, can endure long days and physically capable of heavy lifting items such as storm sewer and manhole covers daily.
• Ability to leverage > 50 lbs and use a machete or similar brush clearing devices.
• Ability to maneuver amongst rough terrain, steep hillsides, creeks, riparian areas and busy roadway networks.
• Ability to work extended hours in various weather elements in the field to meet desired daily production standards and protocols.
