Job summary

Welch Equipment Company is seeking a Forklift Field Mechanic in the Billings, MT area to repair and service material handling equipment at customer sites. A company vehicle is provided and the role follows a M-F 8-hour shift with overtime availability.

The technician will disassemble, inspect, replace defective parts, test operation, and advise on further repairs. Requires HS diploma or GED, active driver's license, and 6 months of experience or relevant certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Active driver’s license and ability to drive a company vehicle.
• 6 Months of Mechanic Experience or Completed Certificate of Automotive or Diesel Service / Repair.
• ASE - Automotive Service Excellence Certificate a plus but not required.
• Requires strong instruction communication skills, both in giving and receiving.
• Ability to effectively demonstrate how to diagnose and troubleshoot specific technical problems.
• Possess excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Requires flexibility to adapt to varying workloads and environments.

Responsibilities

• Report to work on scheduled time and check in with dispatcher for daily work assignments.
• Drive to and from customer locations in company-provided service vehicle with tools & parts inventory.
• Perform routine scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment (oil changes, filter changes, etc.).
• Disassemble engine and repair/replace defective parts as needed.
• Remove and repair cylinder heads, grind valves, replace components per specs.
• Repair/replace and adjust subassemblies such as forks, transmission, brakes, drive chain.
• Test operation and verify engine performance using test equipment.
• Report safety concerns and track time daily for customer invoicing.
