Job summary

Cox Fleet seeks a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II to perform licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, and light to heavy repairs on vehicles in a mobile/field setting. The role requires maintaining a service truck, diagnosing electrical and mechanical systems, and communicating with clients to meet their needs.

A strong candidate has 3+ years in a related field (or 5 years), HS diploma, ASE T8 within 18 months, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of related field experience (or 5 years in related field).
• ASE T8 (PMI) certification required within 18 months.
• DOT pre-employment background screening and DOT physical required.
• DOT medical card accepted in lieu of DOT physical if valid with >4 months remaining.
• Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operations.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform DOT inspections, PMs, and repairs on light to heavy-duty vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, brake, cooling, engine, and suspension systems.
• Inspect, test, and road-test vehicles to ensure proper operation.
• Independently manage parts inventory and company vehicle.
• Document findings on RO using TRAIT app and upload photos.
• Communicate with management to obtain approvals and purchase orders.
• Follow OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations and safety policies.

Hourly base pay rate is $29.38 - $44.09/hour. Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performinglicensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light andfollow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronicdiagnostics, and other duties as assigned.

The Mobile Diesel Technician II canperform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a SrMobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to learnadditional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.

A successfulDiesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high levelperformance metrics.

DUTIES

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections and followup repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/fieldenvironment.
• Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipmentincluding, but not limited to the following: Electrical/Brake/CoolingSystems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Dieselsteering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual andautomatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment including, butnot limited to the following: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems,Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engineelectronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions(manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions,using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
• Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and to ensure that they areworking properly.
• Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, usingsound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
• Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company-issuedservice truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
• Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks,and pre-/post-trip inspections of vehicle.
• Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess theirneeds, providing information or assistance, resolving their problems, orsatisfying their expectations.
• Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as toprioritizing work related activities and time allocations.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, as well as Diesel tools, weldingequipment, lift and jacks.
• Document according to company standards and upload pictures of workperformed, parts used, and all findings observed on Repair Orders (“RO”)using company-issued iOS device and our proprietary TRAIT application.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in atimely fashion.
• Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or close tomost Standard Repair Times.
• Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for therepairs to be performed.
• Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtainapprovals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers and/or discussRO findings notes.
• Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health andenvironmental policies, and federal regulations, to include OSHA, EPA, andDOT.
• Maintain company issued service truck, conduct safety checks and dailypre/post trip inspections.

REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. The rightcandidate could also have a different combination, such as any leveldegree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline; or 5years’ experience in a related field.
• Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required jobduties.
• Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) withineighteen (18) months.
• This position follows regulations issued by the Department ofTransportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).Candidate must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulatedpre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
• A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaininguntil its expiration may be submitted in leu of a DOT physical. If the DOTmedical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOTphysical will be required.
• Due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations, candidates mustbe at least 21 years or older.
• Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required. Candidate must hold avalid state-of-residence driver’s license, be able to obtain and maintaintheir Driver Qualification File.
