Job summary

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is seeking a Medical Technology Student in Memphis, TN to perform technical laboratory procedures on a variety of patient specimens. Under supervision, you will report results, conduct quality control tests, and take part in your professional development.

This role requires enrollment in a Medical Technology program and a laboratory trainee work permit. You will have no supervisory responsibilities but must be prepared for patient contact and various physical demands.

Job description

A Brief Overview

The Medical Technology Student is responsible for performing, under supervision, technical laboratory procedures on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient specimens to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Procedures are performed in an assigned Laboratory section such as Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Diagnostic Immunology, Hematology, or Toxicology. The student must model appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH's Mission, Vision, and Values.

What you will do

• Performs and reports results on technical laboratory procedures on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and animal patients under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.
• Performs preventative and routine maintenance, quality control tests as indicated by department policies, under supervision.
• Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.

Education/Formal Training Requirements

• Required - Currently enrolled in a college program in Medical Technology.

Work Experience Requirements

• Preferred - No prior work experience.

Licenses and Certifications Requirements

• Required - Laboratory trainee work permit from the Tennessee Department of Health – Medical Laboratory Board.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as laboratory reports.
