Overview

Medical Lab Technologist(MLT) works under the direction of the supervising manager or the laboratory director. Performs technical procedures in areas such as Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. Follows quality control and quality assurance guidelines, performs routine equipment maintenance, inventory control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting, and participates in proficiency testing and accreditation activities.

What You Will Do

• Perform technical procedures in Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology while facilitating positive customer service within the department.
• Recognize, communicate and collaborate with physicians regarding laboratory variances and patient data, and build relationships with the multidisciplinary care team.
• Follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines and perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment, including inventory control and preventive maintenance.
• Complete accurate testing to ensure quality patient care across preanalytic, analytic and postanalytic phases.
• Assist in staff and student training.
• Comply with laboratory QA/QI program, performing preventative maintenance, quality controls and troubleshooting per SOPs, and ensuring accreditation with CAP, DNV and other standards.
• Comply with RHS policies, procedures and regulatory requirements supporting National Patient Safety Goals and Quality Initiatives, and report variances with resolution.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Program graduate, completion of an official US military 50‑week medical laboratory procedures training course (Required)
• Currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) (Required)
• Associate’s Degree in Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Lab Science or related field (Required)

Experience

• 2 years clinical laboratory experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or AMT – upon hire (Required)
• Medical Lab Tech (MLT) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) – upon hire (Required)
