Job summary

UW Medicine's Transfusion Service Laboratory at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist Quality Lead. You will integrate advanced transfusion medicine expertise with laboratory quality leadership to support safe, compliant, and efficient blood bank operations across UW Medicine.

Responsibilities include leading investigations, addressing deviations, mentoring staff, ensuring compliance with CAP/FDA/AABB standards, and collaborating with clinical teams.

Qualifications

• Accredited bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or equivalent
• MLS certification with the appropriate body (e.g., ASCP)
• Three years of professional MLS experience including one year at MLS 2 level or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Lead technical quality for transfusion service operations and blood bank safety
• Investigate deviations, non-conforming events, and patient safety concerns
• Collaborate with laboratory leadership, medical directors, and clinical teams on quality initiatives
• Provide mentorship and bench support during staffing shortages or surges
• Maintain compliance with CAP, FDA, AABB, Joint Commission requirements and regulatory standards
• Lead validation and process-improvement efforts for transfusion-related workflows
