Job summary

KLA Milpitas seeks a student-intern to advance machine learning for semiconductor metrology. You will develop DL-based image processing and analytics, validate algorithms with Python and ML frameworks, and work with Applications, Systems, Software, and Algorithm teams to translate research into product capabilities.

Focus areas include multi-modal measurements, uncertainty estimation, and process control, with experience in CV, statistics, and optimization valued.

Group/Division

The Semiconductor Products and Customers (Semi PC) business unit designs, builds and sells KLA's product portfolio to help chip manufacturers meet high-quality standards for technologies like AI, data centers, automotive and electronic devices. Our inspection, metrology, and analytics systems detect and monitor defects across logic and memory chips, specialty semiconductors, wafers, reticles, advanced packaging, process equipment and materials. We also develop technologies for specialty processes, IC substrates, and PCB manufacturing, including etch and deposition, component inspection, and imaging and analytics. The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) division delivers industry-leading metrology solutions essential to advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Its portfolio includes systems for measuring film thickness, critical dimensions, composition, and resistivity-key to developing and scaling next-gen IC processes. FaST partners closely with customers from early R&D through high-volume production, ensuring performance and process alignment.

What You'll Do

• Research and develop machine learning, deep learning, image processing, and computational algorithms for semiconductor metrology applications.
• Analyze large datasets and develop novel approaches for measurement accuracy, robustness, and productivity improvements.
• Prototype and validate algorithms using Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and related ML frameworks.
• Collaborate with Applications, Systems, Software, and Algorithm engineers to transition research concepts into product capabilities.
• Support next-generation metrology solutions including multi-modal measurements, uncertainty estimation, and advanced process control.

Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuing MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or related field.
• Strong background in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Image Processing, or AI.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
• Strong mathematical foundation including statistics, optimization, and numerical methods.
• Ability to analyze large datasets and validate model performance.
• Experience writing production-quality software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in highly cross-functional teams.
• Semiconductor metrology, process control, or manufacturing experience preferred but not required.

Total Rewards Base Pay Range: $58.00 - $58.00 per hour based on pursuit of a Ph.D.
