Job summary

OpenAI seeks a Machine Learning Engineer in Bellevue to lead ML-powered experimentation and insights. You will build end-to-end systems that learn from privacy-protected data to generate evidence-backed decisions and support live testing of ideas.

You’ll work across ML modeling, retrieval, and backend services to make insights actionable, with privacy, provenance, and safety at the forefront. Collaborative, impactful work awaits across product teams.

Qualifications

• Led 0-to-1 ML products focused on real-world decision quality.
• Hands-on across ML lifecycle: dataset design, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Depth in LLM retrieval, forecasting, anomaly detection, causal ML, or simulation.
• Strong software engineering for production systems in Python.

Responsibilities

• Set and execute the technical roadmap for Generative Insights and Predictive Experimentation.
• Build cross-experiment learning systems to retrieve and analyze historical experiments and generate hypotheses.
• Develop predictive models and simulation workflows to estimate impact and uncertainty before a live experiment.
• Create data pipelines and feature retrieval with strong lineage, privacy, and data-quality controls.
• Establish offline benchmarks, backtests, calibration, drift monitoring, and outcome comparisons.
• Turn models into durable product APIs and agent workflows from insight to action.
• Partner with data science and product teams on experiment design and causal inference.
• Build reliable services and intuitive workflows for internal users and experiments.
• Provide technical leadership across engineering, product, data science, and research partners.
