Blue Origin seeks a Senior Project Engineer to lead schedule, budget, and change coordination for the MK2 Lunar Lander program. Based in Merritt Island, FL, you will mentor teams, manage configurations, and support lifecycle activities from development to sustaining production, contributing to safe and reliable spaceflight.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years designing/developing/supporting complex engineered products.
  • 5+ years in project management, system integration, or technical trade management.
  • Experience with multi-functional product development teams and external manufacturers.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will report to the MK2 Program Operations Director and work closely with the vehicle manager for a specific MK2 deliverable. You will focus on managing schedule adherence and budget performance, acting as a key coordinator between engineering, production, and program stakeholders. You will support vehicle configuration management, facilitate change decisions, and maintain the processes, metrics, and reporting rhythms that enable the vehicle manager to successfully deliver the product.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and track schedule adherence and budget performance for the assigned MK2 deliverable
  • Monitor resource allocation and program costs to support on-time, on-budget delivery
  • Identify schedule risks and work with the vehicle manager and cross-functional teams to develop mitigation strategies
  • Support the vehicle manager in maintaining program timelines and financial targets
Vehicle & Change Coordination
  • Track and facilitate MK2 vehicle change tickets, supporting decisions on change content and effectivity
  • Coordinate vehicle configuration management activities with engineering and production teams
  • Support the vehicle manager in assessing the impact of changes on schedule, cost, and technical performance
  • Facilitate change implementation across engineering, production, and program management
Program Reporting & Metrics
  • Develop and maintain program metrics and dashboards to track schedule, budget, and technical performance
  • Report program status and critical path items to the vehicle manager, program leadership, and executives
  • Work with MK2 Lunar Lander Data Analytics to establish and maintain reporting metrics for process insight
  • Prepare and deliver performance-to-plan reporting for program and company-level reviews
  • Contribute content to MK2 Lunar Lander program reporting rhythm and workflow
Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering, production, supply chain, and program management teams
  • Translate design intent and program objectives across various engineering and production teams
  • Facilitate communication and alignment between Integrated Product Team leadership and external manufacturing partners
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders, including program directors, product team managers, and EOLs
Process Improvement & Documentation
  • Identify and support projects and processes that improve overall program success and delivery velocity
  • Support continuous process improvements to enhance program operation, cost efficiency, and schedule performance
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of product development processes, integration plans, and performance metrics
  • Identify and help resolve technical and operational challenges in coordination with the vehicle manager
Product Lifecycle Support
  • Support the vehicle manager through all phases of the product lifecycle, including Product Development and Qualification, New Product Introduction (NPI), and sustaining production
  • Coordinate with engineering and production teams to support vehicle build and test activities
  • Track vehicle status for both vehicles in build and active vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (avionics, aerospace, mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering; physics; or other major requiring engineering or manufacturing core courses)
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in designing/developing/supporting complex engineered products
  • 5+ years of project management, system integration, or technical trade management experience
  • Solid experience working with multi-functional product development teams and external manufacturers
  • Experience with interdisciplinary project management across many departments
  • Outstanding analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills with high levels of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written, personal, and technical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing aerospace products across the entire production life cycle.
  • Previous experience managing technical teams
  • Experience with electronic product development tools: Primavera (P6), DOORS/DNG, CAD / Altium, CREO, Windchill.
  • Experience with budget and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or similar experience working in vehicle integration and test.
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance systems.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Databricks, Python, SQL, ChatGPT.
Base Pay Range For

WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20
