Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Thermal Analysis Engineer for the MK1 Lunar Lander to own component, vehicle, and mission thermal analyses from launch through cis-lunar space and the lunar surface.

Responsibilities include collecting inputs, building and validating Thermal Desktop or Sinda/Fluint models, creating worst‑case scenarios, post‑processing data, and presenting design review content to partners and customers.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering/Analysis experience.
  • Experience in thermal and fluid design fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated thermal analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with modeling spacecraft thermal performance using Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.


At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. To this end, our first MK1 Lunar Lander christened "Endurance" will be the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the moon. Our second MK1 will continue humanity's exploration of the Lunar south pole by delivering NASA's VIPER rover. NASA recently selected Blue Origin to fly 2 more MK1 landers to deliver Lunar Terrain Vehicles.


In this position you will be responsible for thermal analysis for the MK1 Lunar Lander including component, vehicle, and mission analysis in environments ranging from launch to cis-lunar space to the lunar surface, mainly using Thermal Desktop. Minimum Qualifications


  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent

  • 2+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering/Analysis experience

  • Experience in thermal and fluid design fundamentals

  • Demonstrated thermal analysis skills.

  • Familiarity with modeling spacecraft thermal performance using Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.



Preferred Qualifications


  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering

  • 4+ years of relevant aerospace experience

  • Familiarity of thermal control hardware such as coldplates, radiators, heat exchangers, heaters, and multi-layer insulation.

  • Experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, FORTRAN, Matlab).

  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application



Base Pay Range for:


CA applicants is $107,136.00 - $149,990.40CO applicants is $98,208.00 - $137,491.20WA applicants is $107,136.00 - $149,990.40

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
