Job summary

Stratas Foods in Hillside, NJ is seeking a Mixer to manufacture bulk food products in a fast-paced plant. You will read batch cards, monitor gauges, adjust temperatures and speeds, and ensure GMP and safety policies are followed.

You will record production data, sample products for QA, and help maintain product quality. The role requires a high school diploma, the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, and a willingness to work shifts in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience in a fast-paced food facility preferred.
  • Ability to operate independently.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to read batch cards and perform basic math.

Responsibilities

  • Support plant food safety culture and comply with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to GMP and safety requirements.
  • Read batch cards to determine product specifications and processing info.
  • Record production and test data for each batch (ingredients, lot numbers, temperatures, speeds).
  • Monitor gauges, flow meters, and thermometers; adjust as needed to maintain quality and safety.
  • Operate and tend machines to mix or blend a variety of food products.
  • Inspect area for leaks or malfunctions and report deficiencies.
  • Examine product samples and conduct in-process testing.
  • Modify manufacturing directives with QA authorization as needed.
  • Knowledge of transfer valves and pumps used in bulk transfers.
  • Perform CCP checks and maintain sanitation of equipment.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities to meet goals.

Description:

The Mixer will be responsible for the manufacturing of bulk food products to be filled and packed as required by the daily production schedule. This operation is to be performed keeping safety as a primary objective and following established GMP, Safety, Regulatory and Stratas Foods’ procedures and policies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for supporting the plant's food safety culture and complying with all food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements applicable to the position.
  • Adhere to all GMP and Safety requirements.
  • Read batch cards to determine product specifications, processing information, and technical information.
  • Record production and test data for each food product batch, such as ingredients and lot numbers, used temperatures, mixing speeds, and test results.
  • Monitor and regulate gauges, recording instruments, flow meters, and thermometers to correctly adjust the addition of raw materials, mixing temperatures, mixing speeds, etc. to maintain product quality, and ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Operate and tend machines to mix or blend any of a wide variety of food products such as edible oils, dressings, margarines, spreads, shortenings, cooking cherries, vinegars, cooking wines, etc.
  • Patrol work area to detect leaks, equipment malfunctions, and to monitor operating conditions. Report any deficiencies to Production Supervisor / Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Examine product samples during production to evaluate necessary in-process testing requirements.
  • Sample in-process products for the quality assurance laboratory for testing.
  • Test samples of products to ensure compliance with specifications, using test equipment. Document results in required logbooks and/or batch records. Report any deviations of results to the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Modify manufacturing directives with written authorization by the Quality Assurance Department by adjusting mixing cycles and/or addition of ingredients.
  • Responsible for having knowledge of transfer valves, pumps, etc. which transfers bulk products from manufacturing tanks to running tanks.
  • Can operate CCP checks.
  • Clean and sanitize all the equipment necessary for the manufacture of food products.
  • Adapts to shifting priorities and assists wherever needed to meet company goals.
Qualifications
  • High school Diploma
  • Experience operating in a fast paced, ready-to-eat food facility a plus
  • Ability to be self-guided and motivated to operate independently
  • 1-3 months of experience in process blends or similar field
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to do simple math, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to speak and write English, bi-lingual in Spanish a plus
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats
  • Must be able to pass a forklift safety and operations training certification written and practical tests.
  • Knowledge of product knowledge.

Working Conditions:

Plant operations, environment and hours. Able to manage through urgent situations. The job is performed in a manufacturing plant environment. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, heat, sparks, oil, and smoke may occur. Earplugs / ear protection required in this area. Personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, appropriate clothing) is required in manufacturing plants.
