Job summary

Missouri State Public Defender (MSPD) in Missouri seeks a Mitigation Specialist to support appellate and post-conviction relief work. You will conduct psychosocial interviews, build social histories, review records, and identify information essential to legal strategies.

Qualifications

Master's degree in social work or related field; MSW preferred.
Relevant professional experience may be considered in place of a Master’s degree.
Commitment to providing high-quality advocacy for indigent clients.

Responsibilities

Conduct in-depth psychosocial and social history interviews with clients, families, and other individuals with knowledge of the client's background.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of each client's life history, including family, educational, developmental, mental health, medical, substance use, trauma, and social history.
Maintain regular communication with clients and their families throughout the case.
Identify client needs and connect clients with appropriate community resources when appropriate.
Provide attorneys with information and context to support legal strategies and potential claims.
