DLR Group is seeking a Mission Critical Mechanical Design Leader to guide the mechanical design of data-center projects in Phoenix, AZ. You will lead a mechanical engineering team, develop robust construction documents using Revit, and coordinate across disciplines to deliver highly integrated building systems.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in mechanical engineering, with data center design experience, a PE license, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Licensed Mechanical Engineer.
  • 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience including HVAC, central utility plants, plumbing and fire suppression.
  • 5+ years of data center design experience.
  • Experience leading teams of Engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with BIM workflows (Autodesk Revit MEP).

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design for Mission Critical facilities and oversee the engineering discipline.
  • Develop work plans and manage staff to meet profitability goals.
  • Assign duties and balance workload to achieve revenue growth.
  • Schedule and document meetings with staff and clients.
  • Partner with leadership on recruitment, training, and evaluation of personnel.
  • Support business development through RFPs and project interviews.
  • Engage in industry organizations to build the DLR Group brand.
  • Maintain leading workplace practices to create a great place to work.
  • Develop mechanical designs from concept to construction, including calculations and reports.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for integrated building designs.
  • Perform quality control of mechanical plans and specifications.
  • Direct or coordinate activities of personnel, vendors, consultants.

DLR Group has an opening for a Mission Critical Mechanical Design Leader.
Position Summary

As the Mission Critical Mechanical Design Leader, you will be responsible for leading the design of mechanical systems for buildings within the Mission Critical space. You will lead a mechanical engineering team to produce high-quality construction documents using Revit and manage project schedules to meet deliverable requirements. As part of the integrated design team, you will collaborate closely with other disciplines to produce highly integrated building designs.

The Successful Candidate Will
  • Manage operations, execution, and expectations for the Mechanical Engineering Discipline tied to Mission Critical.
  • Workplan mechanical engineering projects and manage staff to execute work to the plan to achieve profitability goals.
  • Assign duties, responsibilities, and projects to personnel, properly balancing staffing and workload (team and personal) to achieve profit and revenue growth goals.
  • Schedule, facilitate and document meetings with staff and clients related to overall operations.
  • Partner with sector and practice leadership to perform all personnel functions such as recruitment, training, and evaluation of personnel.
  • Support business development initiatives by assisting the RFP process, participating in project interviews, and actively engaging in community and/or industry specific organization that will build the DLR Group brand.
  • Maintain industry leading workplace practices to drive operating unit and culture towards a great place to work status.
  • Develop mechanical designs from concept through completion of construction, including engineering design calculations, detailed engineering reports and narratives, and coordination of mechanical design requirements.
  • Perform quality control of the mechanical engineering plans and specifications.
  • Direct or coordinate activities of personnel, vendors, and consultants.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Licensed Mechanical Engineer.
  • 15+ years of experience working as a mechanical engineer, including design of HVAC systems, central utility plants, plumbing and fire suppression systems.
  • 5+ years of experience of design experience related to data centers.
  • Working knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
  • Prior experience leading teams of Engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with BIM (e.g. Autodesk Revit MEP) work flow.
