Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s SEI AI Division seeks an AI Engineer blending deep learning research with production‑grade software to deliver mission‑scale AI capabilities for defense and national security. You will design and deploy large models, build agentic workflows, integrate LangChain, ReAct, and RAG pipelines, and collaborate with researchers, engineers, and government sponsors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, ML, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field with 8+ years of experience, or MS with 5+ years.
• Must be able to obtain DoW security clearance.
• Onsite work 5 days/week at SEI offices in Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA.
• Proficiency in Python and a compiled language; experience with REST/GraphQL APIs and containerization.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and fine‑tune a variety of AI models.
• Design autonomous agents and multi‑step pipelines using LangChain, ReAct, tool‑calling, or custom orchestration; manage stateful interactions.
