Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is hiring for an Onboard MineStar Specialist to support hauling‑equipment systems at a Northern Nevada mine site. You will join a team that maintains onboard networks and machine control, troubleshoot field issues, and collaborate with engineering, product support, and operations to improve performance.

Expected to travel to the site rotation with a 7/7 day shift, relocate if needed, and mentor customer personnel. Strong background in mining tech and Cat MineStar is preferred.

Qualifications

• You have strong mining tech experience and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
• You bring practical knowledge of large mining equipment and on-board systems.
• You can work with radios, networks, and off-board communications in harsh environments.
• You hold a degree or technical training in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronic/Mining Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Own onboard hardware health and availability for MineStar/Command on hauling fleet in the field.
• Manage machine and system integration; ensure components and networks work together.
• Troubleshoot field issues, document findings, and drive resolution with cross-functional teams.
• Analyze autonomy data and validate data accuracy to support root-cause analysis.
• Report status and critical failures clearly; escalate per procedures for critical events.
• Coach customer personnel and internal teammates on interaction with Command equipment.
• Present technical findings to customer maintenance and operations stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

• Own onboard hardware health & availability for MineStar/Command for hauling‑equipped fleet—supporting the customer’s trucks in the field.
• Manage machine and system integration, ensuring onboard components, networks, and machine control systems work together as intended.
• Troubleshoot field issues, document findings, and track problems through resolution in collaboration with cross‑functional teams (engineering, product support, commercial).
• Analyze autonomy and base machine fault data—including validating data accuracy/integrity—to support root‑cause problem solving and performance improvement
• Report hardware/software status and critical failures clearly and consistently, escalating when required and following proper procedures for critical system events.
• Coach and mentor customer personnel and internal teammates on interaction with the Command for hauling equipment and best practices.
• Present technical findings to customer maintenance and operations stakeholders in a clear, practical way.

What Skills You Will Have

Technical Excellence: Experience in mining technology. Strong, practical experience with large mining equipment—mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting on haul trucks or similar heavy mobile equipment. Ability to work with radios, networks, and off‑board communications in an industrial/mine environment.

Field Support: Strong troubleshooting and field support experience. Ability to integrate and maintain complex electronic systems on machines using schematics/models; strong diagnostic mindset.

Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a broader, multi‑disciplinary team.

Top Candidates Will Also Have

• Prior experience with Cat MineStar (onboard, implementation, product support, engineering, or application).
• Degree or technical training in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Mining Engineering.

What Training Looks Like

You’ll receive structured onboarding and product training on MineStar onboard networks/machine control systems and troubleshooting. Training is tailored and may include classroom learning, on‑the‑job development, and mentoring.

Additional Information

This position is based at the mine site in Northern Nevada.

Most MineStar Onboard Specialists work a 7/7 day shift rotation. The selected candidate will drive to the site (approximately two hours from Reno, NV) and stay in customer‑provided accommodations during their scheduled shift. At the end of each rotation, they will return home for their scheduled days off—ideally residing near Reno, NV, or Winnemucca, NV.

Summary Pay Range

$97,530.00 - $146,290.00
