Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. is seeking a skilled Mechanic to diagnose, maintain and repair heavy equipment at the Chino copper operation in southwestern New Mexico.

You’ll work under direct supervision on machines like haul trucks, dozers, loaders and graders within a mining and processing environment. Responsibilities include removing and installing transmissions, engines, brakes and other components, performing preventative maintenance on hydraulic and powertrain systems, and occasionally welding.

Qualifications

• 1 year of heavy equipment maintenance experience or equivalent education/experience
• Able to read and use schematics
• Knowledge of hydraulic, powertrain and engine systems
• Complete competencies and pass required safety exam

Responsibilities

• Assist with and perform removal, repair and installation of transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters and other heavy equipment components
• Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on hydraulic, powertrain and engine systems
• May perform welding (Carbon ARC, Plasma, MIG, TIG, Stick)
• May operate equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks
• Maintain work orders and a clean and safe work area and perform inspections
• Perform other duties as required
