Job summary

Dow in Midland, MI is seeking a Journeyman Millwright to troubleshoot and repair rotating equipment onsite, perform preventive maintenance, and manage equipment alignment and overhauls.   • Analyze needs, perform running adjustments, repairs, and overhauls on mechanical equipment.

Dow has an opportunity as a Journey Millwright – Represented/Tariff in Midland, MI. The Journeyman Millwright will troubleshoot and repair all rotating equipment onsite, remove and set equipment/machinery, repair equipment/vessels, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment. They will be working with varying degrees of precision tolerances.

Responsibilities
  • Perform safe maintenance on rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, ventilation systems, agitators, seals, and hoists.
  • Bolt/unbolt piping and equipment, applying proper torque and gasketing techniques, and maintain threaded piping connections.
  • Work safely in all conditions and environments (shop, process areas, outdoors, elevated locations, confined spaces) as part of a team or individually.
  • Complete all required training and maintain timely, accurate data entry to support reliability efforts.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to safety improvements.
  • Oversee Millwright apprentices, giving directions and assistance when needed.
  • Fabricate parts when not commercially available using common trade machines and hand tools.
  • Determine needs, analyze issues, and make necessary running adjustments, repairs, and overhauls on mechanical equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, a 4–10 or 5–8 schedule, with occasional overtime and after‑hour call rotation for night and weekend coverage.
  • Current, valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Legal ability to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship available.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Millwright Journeyman card.
  • Familiarity with optics and/or laser alignment techniques.
  • NCCER certification in Millwright or Mechanical craft (instructional‑led training preferred).
  • Knowledge of maintaining and installing/replacing rolling‑element bearings, mechanical seals, shaft couplings, and rotating shaft assemblies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and quick learning of new systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Competent use of maintenance tools, including measuring tools such as micrometers and depth gauges for shaft‑to‑shaft alignment.
  • Ability to work safely and follow safety protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting, written, verbal, and listening skills.

  • Multi‑tasking and time‑management skills.
  • Leadership through influence and the ability to inspire others.
  • Self‑starter, self‑motivated, with the ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks independently.

  • Capacity to build and maintain relationships with natural work teams, engineers, operations personnel, and coworkers.
Physical Requirements
  • Wear safety equipment such as earplugs, goggles, and steel‑toed shoes.
  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and climbing stairs/ladders or working high off the ground.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Use standard safety equipment rated for individuals who weigh 300 pounds or less.
