Job summary

Southern Industrial Constructors, Inc. in Mebane, NC is seeking skilled Millwrights to assemble and install machinery on a manufacturing site. Hired candidates will read blueprints, dismantle and move equipment, and contribute to precise alignment and foundations.

This position requires travel, strict safety discipline, and ability to work with hoists, cranes, and hand tools to meet project specifications. Related training and benefits available after the introductory period.

Responsibilities

• Reads blueprint and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Dismantles machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
• Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
• Constructs foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials.
• Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, meters.
• Unload, inspect and move equipment, using rigging and cranes.
• Understand load properties of cables, ropes, hoists, cranes and signals.
• Fit bearings, align gears and belts per blueprints and drawings.
• Precision leveling and alignment using calipers, micrometers, etc.
• Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment.
• Maintain safety and quality standards.
• Regular attendance and potential significant travel.
• Perform other duties as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Reads blueprint and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Dismantles machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
• Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
• Constructs foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement and steel.
• Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
• Unload, inspect and move equipment, using rigging, hoisting devices, chain falls and hydraulic-lift trucks or gantry overhead cranes.
• Must understand the load properties of cables, ropes, hoists, cranes and know all hand/crane signals.
• Fit bearings, align gears and wheels, attach motors, and connect belts, according to the manufacturer’s blueprints and drawings.
• Experience with precision leveling and alignment in order to measure angles, material thickness, and small distances with calipers, squares, micrometers, and other tools.
• Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment.
• Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
• Lift and carry objects of varying weights.
• Detect, recognize and respond to dangerous conditions or situations.
• Regular attendance is required.
• Significant travel may be required.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Skilled in both written and verbal communication.
• Complete all Safety and general job training as required by SIC.
• Observe SIC and Customer safety and quality processes and procedures at all times.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to effectively use all required PPE equipment and lift up to fifty pounds.
• Must be able to safely access all areas of property, buildings, structures, wharves, rooftops and other elevated positions, as well as, confined spaces.
• Strenuous physical demands are required to safely perform the essential functions associated with this position.
• Must be able to safely operate all involved equipment and tools.
• Must be capable of standing for long periods of time, bending consistently, working in confined spaces with limited access, on ladders, in personnel lifts, in workboats, and working in awkward body positions.

Work Environment

• Conditions include working in office, shop, busy traffic areas, warehouses, and undeveloped properties, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions.
