Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Longview, WA is seeking an Intermediate Millwright to join our pulp and paper mill maintenance team. The role requires mechanical aptitude, blueprint reading, and commitment to training to gain required skills.

You will perform maintenance and repairs on equipment used in pulp and paper manufacturing, read schematics, troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and use precision tools. Welding experience is a plus and a formal apprenticeship is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in industrial maintenance as an Intermediate level Millwright.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Formal apprenticeship or education preferred.
• Welding Experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures to assemble, dismantle and overhaul machinery and equipment using hand and power tools
• Repair and/or make improvements to equipment related to pulp and paper manufacturing processes
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
• Operate a wide variety of precision tools such as veneer calipers, micrometers, dial indicators and levels
• Perform maintenance tasks in connection with the maintenance and repair of equipment

The Opportunity

WestRock’s pulp and paper mill located in Longview, WA is actively seeking to fill an Intermediate level Millwright position. A successful candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude and be willing and eager to invest time and energy in training to gain the necessary skills and knowledge required to be successful.

How You Will Impact WestRock

• Perform a variety of maintenance-related tasks in connection with the maintenance department.


• Repair and/or make improvements to equipment related to pulp and paper manufacturing processes.


• Be able to read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures to assemble, dismantle and overhaul machinery and equipment using hand and power tools


• Work with a wide variety of precision tools such as veneer calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, levels, gauge blocks and optical and laser alignment tooling


• Perform a variety of maintenance related tasks in connection with the maintenance, repair and/or improvement to equipment related to pulp and paper manufacturing processes.


• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.


• Other duties as assigned.

What You Need To Succeed

• High School Diploma or GED required.


• 2+ years’ experience working in an industrial maintenance environment as an Intermediate level Millwright. Previous experience in a pulp and paper mill would be considered a plus.


• Formal apprenticeship or education preferred.


• Self-motivated, results driven, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision or direction.


• Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, read and interpret technical documents, and operate moderately complex software and web-based programs.


• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; customer-focused and a flexible, positive attitude.


• Have the appropriate body coordination with or without reasonable accommodation to do the following for extended periods of time: climb ladders, bending, twisting, kneeling, and crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting in varying temperatures (hot/cold)


• Welding Experience a plus.

Compensation Offered

• Starting wage of $30.93/hour.
