Job summary

Ellwood Quality Steels seeks skilled Millwrights to maintain, repair, and install industrial machinery across the facility. You will support daily operations, ensure equipment reliability, and perform mechanical, hydraulic, welding, and crane-maintenance tasks.

The role requires reading blueprints, performing preventive maintenance, and collaborating with a cross-functional team in a fast-paced steelmaking environment. A safety-focused mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Safe work practices are essential.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• EQS Apprenticeship completed or 2+ years heavy industrial maintenance experience (steelmaking preferred).
• Ability to pass written, blueprint, hydraulic, and welding assessments.
• Driver's license preferred (not essential).
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams for installations and maintenance.
• Maintain and repair hydraulic systems and related machinery.
• Apply MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques (including stainless).
• Operate mobile equipment safely and perform crane maintenance.
• Install and align gear reductions and motor/reducer couplings.
• Work safely at heights and keep the work area clean and compliant.
• Collaborate with team and support cross-functional operations.
• Meet attendance expectations and perform additional duties as needed.

About the Role

The Millwright plays a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and installing industrial machinery and systems throughout the facility. This position supports daily operations by ensuring equipment reliability and by performing a broad range of mechanical, hydraulic, welding, and crane-maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, and technical diagrams
• Perform maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems
• Apply advanced welding techniques including MIG, TIG, stick (including stainless), and gas welding
• Operate mobile equipment safely and effectively
• Conduct routine and preventive crane maintenance using proper safe rigging methods
• Install, align, and maintain gear reductions and motor/reducer couplings
• Work comfortably and safely at heights
• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment
• Collaborate effectively with team members and support cross-functional operations
• Meet attendance expectations and complete additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Dedication to safe work practices
• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of the EQS in-house Apprentice Program or minimum 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial setting (steelmaking experience strongly preferred)
• Ability to pass written, blueprint, hydraulic, and welding assessments
• Valid driver's license preferred (driving is not an essential job function but license status is monitored per company policy)
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
