Job summary

TA Services is seeking a skilled forklift operator to support heavy-duty material handling at our partner mill. You will operate Taylor lift forklifts, assist with loading/unloading, and ensure accurate counts and safe loading procedures.

The role is outdoors on a 12-hour rotating swing shift, with expectations for safety, reliability, and teamwork. Benefits include PTO, tuition reimbursement, and other employee programs.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy-duty forklifts (Taylor lift) is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and able to perform physically demanding work.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain heavy-duty forklifts and yard vehicles.
• Receive inbound loads, complete paperwork, and supervise unloading.
• Prepare orders for delivery or pickup and verify counts.
• Maintain inventory controls and keep a clean, safe work environment; report hazards.
• Follow SJIs, training requirements, and local regulations.

Job Description

Days and Shift Information:

• 12 Hour Rotating Swing Shift

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain heavy-duty forklifts (Taylor lift), yard vehicles, and equipment.
• Comply with all Safe Job Instructions (SJIs), training requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
• Receive and inspect inbound loads, complete paperwork, and supervise unloading personnel.
• Prepare and complete orders for delivery or pickup, verify product integrity and counts, and ensure proper trailer/container loading.
• Maintain inventory controls, keep a clean and safe work environment, and report any hazards or issues to the supervisor.
• Outdoor work all day except when in the truck. The mill is part of Nucor Corp, the largest scrap metal recycler in North America. Minimal advancement opportunities (next step is foreman).

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience:

• Experience operating heavy-duty forklifts (Taylor lift) is required; knowledge of yard operations and equipment preferred.

Personality Traits:

• Safety-conscious, detail-oriented, cooperative with supervisors and coworkers, and able to handle physically demanding work.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to walk around trucks and inspect fluids and conditions.
• Climb up and down 5 steps for truck ingress/egress up to 12 times per 12-hour shift.
• Hook/unhook airlines for trailers up to 75 times per 12-hour shift.
• Dismount truck and position wood dunnage weighing up to 50 lbs as needed.
• Steer and stop truck and trailer weighing up to 90,000 lbs during 12-hour shifts.

Additional Information

• $17/hr
• Accrue up to five days PTO in first year. Two weeks vacation, plus one week PTO accrue on first anniversary.
