Mativ is hiring a Mill Utility at our Brownville, NY mill to support packaging & specialty papers operations. The role involves handling rolls, threading machines, applying saturants and coatings, and keeping the area clean and safe on a rotating shift schedule.

Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, stocking supplies, and assisting the Rewinder crew. The position requires physical endurance, ability to lift 50 lbs, and strong safety discipline in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 1 year of machine operating experience preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude required.
• Basic math, reading and writing skills required.
• Regular, predictable attendance is essential.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work shift work including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Operate and support paper machine, coater, and inspection winder tasks.
• Transport and stage rolls, thread machines, apply saturants and coatings as needed.
• Conduct inspections and document results.
• Maintain clean, safe work area and assist Rewinder crew with production materials.
• Follow procedures and wear PPE at all times.
• Meet safety and process requirements and operate equipment properly.

Job Summary

Our Mill Utility position supports Mativ's PKGSP - Packaging & Specialty Papers team, at our Brownville, NY Mill a Mativ company ("Mativ"). The Mill Utility position is responsible for performing all tasks associated with supporting manufacturing operations on the paper machine, and/or coater, and/or inspection winder. Responsibilities include transporting and staging rolls, threading of machines, making saturants, coatings and general housekeeping. This is an onsite position and involves rotating shift work.

Responsibilities

• Conduct self and job tasks in a safe manner following proper work procedures.
• Perform and document inspections.
• Monitor and stock operating supplies as needed or directed, cores, pallets, wrap, etc.
• Move rolls from Machine, Calendar and Rewinder areas
• Collect scrap and waste from process to bale
• General housekeeping
• Assist the Rewinder crew in preparing production materials
• Keep work area and machinery clean, neat, organized, and free of any safety hazards.

Qualifications

• 1 Year Machine Operating experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
• Mechanical Aptitude required
• Basic Math, Reading and Writing skills required
• Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance required
• Ability to use a ruler or other measurement tools to ensure products meet customer expectations
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• Ability to work shiftwork and weekends as needed
• Ability to work twelve (12) hours or more per day when needed
• Ability to respond to call-ins at any time of day or night when needed
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
• Ability to bend, kneel, squat and stoop
• Ability to read and understand instructions, procedures, and equipment training manuals
• Ability to accurately read and record data
• Ability to climb stairs, steps, ladders, scaffolds, mobile lifts and elevator platforms
• Ability to operate/use manual and powered material handling equipment such as hand dolly, chain fall, chain hoist, electric hoist, fork truck
• Ability to learn and utilize computer-based systems
• All applicants must pass a pre-employment physical, background check and drug screen

Position Demands

Conditions are that of a manufacturing environment:

• Air Temperatures can range from cold to hot.
• Atmosphere may contain dust, fumes, and odors.
• May include mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive and radiation hazards.

Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including:

• Safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe)
• Safety Glasses
• Protective Gloves, when performing certain tasks
• Hearing Protection
• Other personal protective equipment as required for certain tasks.

While performing the duties of this job the employee must meet the physical demands:

• Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Be able to work 12-hour shifts.
• Perform repetitive tasks.
• Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk.
• Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, sometimes in awkward or tight spaces.
• Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
• Meet Mativ certification requirements to operate PIV's

The hourly rate for this position is $21.69 per hour.
