The role requires strong leadership in employee development, budgeting, and collaboration with unions to optimize production and recovery. Experience in base metal flotation and mill management is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Mineral Processing preferred; equivalent extensive mill management experience considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of concentrator experience with proven base metal flotation expertise.
  • Deep working knowledge of heavy industrial milling and mining processes.
  • Proven project management capabilities with track record of capital or operational improvements.
  • Exceptional commitment to health, safety and environmental stewardship, including MSHA policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all plant operations.
  • Proficiency in standard business software (Microsoft Office).
  • Hands-on experience with SAP and Rockwell Automation systems is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor plant performance and recommend improvements.
  • HIRE and develop staff through coaching, training and performance reviews.

  • Coordinate internal and external training for mine and maintenance teams.
  • Foster union relationships and participate in committees as needed.
  • Manage the Collective Bargaining Agreement within guidelines and respond to disciplinary hearings.
  • Serve as Project Manager or Technical Expert on mill modification projects.

Job description

The North Mill Manager will lead the concentrator team to create a safe, motivated and productive environment which stimulates continuous improvement. The highest standards must be maintained in areas of safety, environmental, plant productivity and efficiency. A successful candidate must have vision for employee development and plant improvements. The North Mill Manager will ensure that the plant adheres to all Company Policies as well as Federal, State and Local Regulations. The candidate must develop relationships with unions and work under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The concentrator consists of a primary gyratory crusher, secondary and tertiary crushing, numerous rod and ball mills, mechanical and column flotation circuit, disc filters, thickeners and tailings storage facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinates milling production and maintenance priorities in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Work to enhance the existing Total Safety Culture Program and Environmental guidelines to insure employee safety and health.
  • Manages budgeting and cost control for the North Mill.
  • Monitors plant performance, troubleshoots deficiencies or failures and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Hires and develops staff through coaching, training and performance reviews.
  • Works closely with the mine to strategize how to improve overall production and recovery.
  • Manage and coordinate the internal and external training to meet the needs associated with the mine and maintenance teams.
  • Foster a cohesive working relationship (a partnership) with the local unions and participate in committees as needed.
  • Manage the Collective Bargaining Agreement within its guidelines. Hear and respond to disciplinary hearings.
  • Must be able to manage personnel problems through the set Company Policies and provisions within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • May serve as Project Manager or Technical Expert on mill modification projects.
  • Controls the preparation and accuracy of North Mill production reports.
  • Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Mineral Processing preferred; equivalent extensive mill management experience will be considered.
  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 10 years of concentrator experience with proven expertise in base metal flotation.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Technical Expertise: Deep working knowledge of heavy industrial milling and mining processes.
  • Project Leadership: Proven project management capabilities with a track record of driving capital or operational improvements.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Exceptional commitment to health, safety, and environmental stewardship, including strict adherence to MSHA policies.
  • Innovation & Problem-Solving: Ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, and implement innovative technologies to optimize process efficiency.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of plant operations.
  • Software & Systems:

  • Hands-on experience with SAP and Rockwell Automation systems is highly preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
  • Mandatory training and active compliance in Environmental Awareness policies and guidelines.
  • Mandatory training and compliance in Safety & Health Awareness, including successful completion of all required MSHA training certifications.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Industrial Environment: Work takes place in a heavy industrial mining setting with exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations (both hot and cold), moisture, elevated noise, vibrations, airborne dust, and chemicals.
  • Physical Demands: Requires walking and standing on slippery or rough, uneven terrain, navigating confined spaces, working at heights, and frequently climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Autonomy: Must be comfortable and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
