Job summary

Aerotek in Brighton, MI is seeking an experienced Mill Machinist to set up and operate manual and CNC milling machines to produce precision components. You will read blueprints, select tooling, perform set-ups, and verify parts with micrometers and bore gauges.

Strong Mazak/Mazatrol experience and 3+ years required; your work will support engineering and quality teams in a fast-paced shop. Shifts are available in a heavy manufacturing environment with strict safety standards.

Responsibilities

Job description

This position is for an experienced Mill Machinist in a busy machine shop in Brighton, MI. You will set up and operate manual and CNC milling machines to produce precision components that consistently meet internal and customer quality standards. The role requires strong blueprint reading skills, the ability to work with tight tolerances, and a commitment to delivering high-quality machined parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC milling machines, including vertical mills and bridge mills, to produce precision components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
• Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job to ensure optimal machining performance and part quality.
• Perform machine set-ups, changeovers, and tool offsets, including adjustments and minor program edits on CNC equipment as needed.
• Operate Mazak mills and utilize Mazatrol programming to run and adjust machining programs.
• Use precision measuring tools such as analog micrometers, calipers, indicators, and bore gauges to measure and inspect parts.
• Maintain tight tolerances and verify that all parts meet specified quality and dimensional requirements.
• Perform basic machine maintenance and keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
• Troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and work instructions while operating machinery and handling materials.
• Contribute to a safe and efficient production flow by working effectively with machinists, welders, assemblers, and engineers.
• At least 3 years of experience working as a mill machinist.
• Hands-on experience setting up and operating manual and CNC milling machines, including vertical mills and bridge mills.
• Strong experience with Mazak machines and Mazatrol programming.
• Proficiency with machine operation, set-ups, changeovers, and basic CNC programming adjustments.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately.
• Skilled in using analog micrometers and other precision measuring instruments such as calipers, indicators, and bore gauges.
• Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances and produce parts that meet strict quality specifications.
• Experience performing basic machine maintenance and keeping a clean, organized work area.
• Solid troubleshooting skills for machining processes and equipment.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with heavy and CNC machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Okuma machines is a strong plus.
• Background in machining, lathe operation, and general machine operation is beneficial.
• Experience with programming for CNC milling, including Mazatrol, is highly valued.
• Familiarity with bridgeport mills and other common shop equipment is advantageous.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, and production personnel.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality in all tasks.

The role is based in a large industrial manufacturing facility that supports the production and repair of components for the steel and heavy industrial industries. The shop features heavy machinery, CNC equipment, fabrication tools, cranes, and material handling systems. The environment is clean, organized, and strongly safety-focused, but includes typical manufacturing conditions such as machine noise, moving equipment, and regular periods of standing, walking, lifting, and working around large metal parts. Work is hands-on and production-oriented, alongside machinists, welders, assemblers, and engineers. Shifts include 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), 2nd shift (approximately 3:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.), and 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. or until 8:30 a.m.), with training on 1st shift for up to one month. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday with overtime every other Saturday. Attire is appropriate for an industrial manufacturing environment, with required safety gear and practical work clothing suitable for working around heavy machinery and metal components.

$25/hr - $38/hr Depending on shift and experience*

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $79040.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
