Job summary

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) Everett Hospital is seeking Milieu Counselors / Nursing Assistants to support inpatient psychiatric units. You will work under the supervision of RNs, providing a safe, structured milieu and assisting with patient care, group activities, and monitoring vital signs.

Positions are full-time on the 11pm-7:30am night shift with weekend/holiday rotation. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered for 32–40 hour per week roles; benefits include a dynamic interdisciplinary team

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) from American Heart Association required.
• At least 1 year inpatient clinical mental health experience preferred.
• Experience with geriatric and adult psychiatry preferred.
• Must successfully complete a job-specific physical agility test.

Responsibilities

• Aid with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and lead or co-lead patient groups.
• Conduct safety checks and 1:1 meetings with patients.
• Chart vital signs (BP, TPR, weight) and monitor nutrition and hydration.
• Communicate changes in patient status with nurses and care team.

The float pool Milieu Counselors / Nursing Assistants provide care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. While regularly scheduled, the members of the float pool are deployed on a shift by shift basis to provide care to patients in multiple adult and geriatric psych units at Everett Hospital.

We provide a vibrant activities program along with special group sessions and programming to provide support. A designated activity group room houses musical instruments, art supplies and other items to engage individual patient strengths and interests. Patients are cared for by a dynamic interdisciplinary psychiatry team of nurses, milieu counselors, providers and social workers.

Job PurposeProviding quality care according to Cambridge Health Alliance standards of nursing practice and the role expectations of the Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Unit. The Milieu Counselor is a member of the multidisciplinary team who, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, is responsible for a safe and structured unit milieu as well as attending to the individual needs of patients in crisis in an inpatient psychiatric setting.

The Milieu Counselor/ Nursing Assistant assists with ADL's, lead or co-lead groups, perform safety checks, 1:1 meetings with patients, and charts patients B/P, TPR & weight, as well as helping maintain their nutritional and hydration needs.

The Milieu Counselor/ Nursing Assistant communicates with the nurses of any changes in vital signs and accurately measures and documents patients’ intake and output.

Qualifications/Experience:

• A minimum of a High School diploma or GED required.


• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Associationis required.


• At least one year previous inpatient clinical mental health experience in a behavioral health unit is strongly preferred


• Experience with geriatric and adult psych is strongly preferred.


• All newly hired candidates must successfully complete a job specific physical agility test.
