Job summary

Volvo Group, Kings Mountain Operations, is seeking an experienced MIG Welder to support the fabrication and assembly process by producing high-quality welds, setting up welding machines, and inspecting parts to meet production and quality standards.

You will handle welding of galvanized steel, mild steel, and aluminum, read blueprints, and follow safety protocols. The role requires staying current with best practices and participating in ongoing training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with one year welding and fabrication experience.
  • Basic knowledge of welding techniques and safety practices.
  • Ability to operate MIG welding equipment under supervision.
  • Ability to measure and cut materials to specified dimensions using tape measures, calipers, or other measuring instruments
  • Ability to weld in different weld position: Flat (1G/1F), Horizontal (2G,2F), Vertical (3G,3F) and Overhead (4G,4F).

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect welded parts for structural integrity, uniformity, and compliance with engineering standards. Make necessary corrections to ensure the highest quality welds.
  • Follow all established safety protocols, including the proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), safe handling and disposal of welding fumes, and full adherence to OSHA and company safety standards to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the welding workstation.
  • Communicate any equipment malfunctions, material shortages, or production delays to supervisors in a timely manner to minimize disruptions in workflow.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, supervisors, and quality inspectors to ensure welding meets production standards.
  • Take part in ongoing training and skill development initiatives to improve welding techniques and stay up to date with industry’s best practices.

As MIG Welder, you will hold a very important role in the Kings Mountain Operations (KMO) facility. In this role, you will support the fabrication and assembly process by producing high-quality welds, operating welding equipment safely and efficiently, and ensuring components are built to precise specifications to meet production and quality standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications (Education, Skills, & Experience):
  • High school diploma or GED required with one (1) year welding and fabrication experience
  • Basic knowledge of welding techniques and safety practices.
  • Ability to operate MIG welding equipment under supervision.
  • Ability to measure and cut materials to specified dimensions using tape measures, calipers, or other measuring instruments
  • Ability to weld in different weld position: Flat (1G/1F), Horizontal (2G,2F), Vertical (3G,3F) and Overhead (4G,4F).
Preferred Qualifications (if applicable):
  • Completion of a formal welding program or technical training is a plus.
  • Two (2) or more years of welding and fabrication experience or completion of a welding training program is advantageous
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to lift and carry components weighing up to 50 lbs.; team lift or equipment used for heavier items.
  • Must be able to safely push, pull, and maneuver parts and materials on the production line as required to perform responsibilities.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must pass a welding test to demonstrate proficiency at facility.
Work Environment/Conditions:
  • Regular exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and occasional exposure to fumes, dust, or extreme temperatures.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching.
  • Schedule may include early morning, evening, or weekend shifts based on production needs. Overtime may be required during high volume periods.
  • May be designated as essential personnel during plant operational disruptions, planned shutdowns, or emergencies.

For this position, the base pay is set at $19.75 - $24.40/ hour, and where applicable, bonus eligible. The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience.
