Description

Wakefield School, located in The Plains, Virginia, seeks a dynamic and innovative teacher who loves working with young people to serve as a member of its faculty beginning in August of 2026. This full-time position, which includes benefits, may include Middle School and/or Upper School classes in Mathematics and advising 8-10 students at one grade level. The ideal candidate would have independent school teaching experience, a degree in a relevant field, and be committed to ongoing professional development.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Embrace and model a culture of innovation and evolution in curriculum and instruction.
• Authentically engage with students, embracing the unique culture of Wakefield School.
• Serve as an advisor and advocate for students, including the academic and personal growth needs of assigned advisees.
• Serve as an engaged faculty member collaborating with others in setting the professional practices and curriculum for the school.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• A bachelor’s degree with a major concentration in a relevant field and/or education is required.

The preferred candidate will have:

• Master’s degree and/or Commonwealth of Virginia certification;
• Relevant classroom experience, including Middle and/or Upper School Mathematics instruction;
• Technological proficiency in the classroom, including Google Educational apps, interactive whiteboards, and electronic grade books;
• Growth mindset and willingness to pursue ongoing professional development;
• Experience with coaching and/or club sponsorship;
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
