Job summary

Lockwood School District #26 seeks a Middle School Special Education Teacher (Grades 6-8) to teach exceptional students and support district programs. The role focuses on developing individualized plans, delivering appropriate instruction, and maintaining strong family partnerships.

Responsibilities include IEP development, multidisciplinary meetings, progress monitoring, and collaboration with staff to ensure a conducive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Licensed and endorsed in accordance with state statutes and Board of Public Education rules.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent developmental issues.
• Ability to relate to and work with children and/or adolescents with varying disabilities.
• Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
• Knowledge of computerized IEP programming and ability to keep accurate computerized files.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff and the community.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
• Ability to effectively manage time and responsibility.
• Ability to operate wheelchairs and other special needs equipment.

Responsibilities

• Develops Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and participates in IEP/ multidisciplinary meetings.
• Provides an appropriate educational program for each student.
• Plans curriculum, lessons and teaching methods for special education.
• Monitors student progress and adjusts goals and objectives.
• Maintains regular communication with parents and guardians.
• Participates in faculty meetings, professional development and workshops.
• Keeps accurate records and reports, including IEP forms and progress reports.
• Supervises students, classroom aides, and volunteers.
