Base pay range

$48,585.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr

Position Overview

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. In pursuit of our mission, we are hiring new English language arts (ELA) elective teachers. This position will focus on Spanish and ensure students receive world‑class instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. Teachers will build inclusive classrooms, collaborate with colleagues, parents, and students, and support the district’s educational goals.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education or an ELA‑related field (e.g., Journalism, Screenwriting, Communications)
  • Previous experience working with middle school and high school students
  • Alignment with Lansing School District’s mission and values
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a secondary ELA endorsement (e.g., BA, BC, BD, BQ)
  • Previous teaching experience in an urban setting (preferred)
  • Training in CRPBIS and other related instructional methodologies (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with secondary ELA endorsement (required if not currently possessed)
  • Previous successful teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Training in CRPBIS and other related instructional methodologies
  • Experience in Spanish‑focused instruction (preferred)
Job Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate passion for and expertise in creative writing, communication, digital media studies and other secondary ELA content
  • Provide world‑class instruction in ELA to middle and high school students
  • Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
  • Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
  • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces
  • Frequent verbal communication is required to instruct students, lead meetings, and collaborate with staff and families
  • May be required to stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties
  • Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students
  • Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication
  • Must be able to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
