Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking a Middle School Golf Assistant Coach within the Athletics department. The role involves coaching student-athletes, planning practices, and teaching golf fundamentals for personal growth and teamwork.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of the sport, coaching principles coursework, and the ability to model sportsmanship and leadership. Reports to Building Principal and Site-based Athletic Director; seasonally stipend position with part-time hours.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the sport and coaching philosophy.
  • Successful completion of the Coaching Principles Course and First Aid training.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coach student participants while adhering to program policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of rules and MS HSA A standards.
  • Promote sportsmanship and teamwork among student-athletes.
  • Plan and conduct daily practices to maximize growth and performance.
  • Teach fundamental skills, strategies, and techniques of golf.
  • Instill values of conduct, integrity and citizenship.
  • Provide supervision and address behavioral concerns fairly.

Job description

Job Title: Middle School Golf Assistant Coach

Salary Grade: $2500 stipend

Department: Athletics

Reports To: Building Principal and Site-based Athletic Director

Position Summary: This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes so they may achieve a high level of swimming skill while developing an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth through participation in the sport.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)
  • Supervise and coach student participants while adhering to all KCPS, First Tee, and program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the rules, regulations, and requirements governing the assigned sport, including compliance with MSHSAA standards.
  • Promote and model sportsmanship, teamwork, a strong work ethic, personal responsibility, and healthy competition among student-athletes.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices designed to maximize student-athlete growth, skill development, and performance.
  • Teach the fundamental skills, strategies, techniques, and principles of the assigned sport.
  • Instill the values of positive conduct, sportsmanship, integrity, and good citizenship in all participants.
  • Provide continuous supervision of student-athletes and address behavioral concerns in a fair, consistent, and constructive manner.
  • Ensure the proper care, security, and maintenance of all equipment and facilities utilized by the program.
  • Implement and maintain effective procedures for the issuance, collection, inventory, and upkeep of athletic equipment.
  • Demonstrate ethical leadership and professionalism during practices, competitions, and school-related activities while exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship and conduct.
  • Maintain accurate records of team and individual achievements and coordinate the recognition of participants through awards, honors, and other acknowledgments.
  • Collaborate with the Principal and school administration to support and strengthen the overall athletic program.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through clinics, workshops, trainings, and professional publications to enhance coaching effectiveness.
  • Attend New Hire Orientation and other required district trainings, as applicable.
  • Complete all mandatory district compliance trainings, including SafeSchools Online Training, as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteers, and students involved in assigned sport.

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Minimum Qualifications)
  • Knowledge of particular sport (philosophy & coaching)
  • Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Employed as a teacher in the school in which the candidate applies for a coaching position;
Physical Demands

Sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least 25 pounds.
