Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, TX is seeking a part-time Coach to support our athletic program. The role organizes practices and games, monitors student athletes' academic progress, and ensures compliance with school policies.

Compensation is $20.00 per hour for 4-5 hours/week over 6-8 weeks, with eligibility for benefits and opportunities to grow as a leader within a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of coaching experience.
• Strong knowledge of the sport and its rules.
• CPR and AED certification from a national organization, or plan to become certified within a given time frame.

• Providing an orientation of a sound program to all student athlete participants.

• Training each student-athlete to become in the best physical condition possible.
• Staying with the team until the last student-athlete and their guardians.

THE ROLE

When you join the YES Prep team, some of the exciting work and responsibilities will include:

• Organizing practices and games

• Monitoring the academic progress of student athletes throughout the school year

• Include issuing and collecting uniforms

• Providing an orientation of a sound program to all student athlete participants

• Communicating with coaches and athletic director on the progression of the student athletes and the team

• Realizing the athlete is a student first; academics have priority over athletics.

• Being on time to all scheduled athletic events.

• Practicing with a plan and purpose.

• Training each student-athlete to become in the best physical condition as possible .

• Putting the team first, and the individual second .

• Staying with the team, at all times, until the last student-athlete and their parents/guardians.

• Collecting athlete documentation such as physicals and other important paperwork in a designated Athletics Binder in order to remain in compliance with State and YES Prep policies.

• Additional duties as assigned.

THE PERSON

THE MUST HAVES

• 0-3 years of coaching experience

• Strong knowledge of specific sport including rules, terminology, etc.

• Must hold a valid certification for both CPR and AED use from a nationally recognized organization, or attend a district required training to become certified within a given time frame

THE NICE TO HAVES

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution

• Continued Education in specific sport

• Coached specific sport

• Experience working with kids
