Job summary

Grand Rapids Public Schools – Burton Middle School (6-8) in Grand Rapids, Michigan is seeking a Middle School Cheer Coach for Winter 2027. This full‑time position is part of the Athletics department and follows the GREA contract schedule C, with compensation based on prior coaching experience.

The coach will organize athletes, teach fundamentals, run tryouts, and promote sportsmanship while maintaining safety and academics alignment with school expectations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older and clear a criminal background check.
• Playing experience at the high school or college level and/or coaching experience required.
• Proof of current First Aid and CPR certifications prior to the first day of coaching.
• Certificate of completion for online concussion training prior to the first day of coaching.

Responsibilities

• Develop clear goals for the team and individuals throughout tryouts and season.
• Maintain open communication with scholars, parents, other coaches, and Athletic Director.
• Model good sportsmanship and create a safe, healthy coaching environment.
• Support scholar academic expectations and school policies within athletics.
