Job summary

Thomas MacLaren School is seeking an Assistant Coach to coordinate and implement the school's athletic program under the Head Coach, adhering to CHSAA rules and school policies. This role reports to the Athletic Director and offers a stipend pay structure.

Responsibilities include representing the school at events, maintaining equipment, and communicating with parents and staff about student-athlete progress and injuries. A Bachelor's degree and coaching experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred with administrative and/or coaching experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong organizational skills, attention to detail.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

• Ensure players adhere to CHSAA rules and league regulations; attend required trainings.
• Attend trainings, meetings, and mandatory parent meetings; supervise equipment.
• Communicate with Head Coach, Athletic Director, and parents about discipline or behavior concerns.
• Notify Health office when athletes sustain injuries and ensure safety protocols are followed.

Overview

Job Title: Assistant Coach

Reports To: Athletic Director

Pay Type: Stipend

Compensation: Pay range: $600-$1,500 (depending on length of season and level of competition). Benefits for employees contracted for 30 hours per week or more: 100% base insurance premiums (Health, Dental, Vision, Long-term and Short-term disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, and Life insurance) for the base level coverages. No benefits for employees contracted for less than 30 hours per week.

General Purpose

The Assistant Coach coordinates and implements the School’s athletic program under the direction of the Head Coach, in conformance with School policies, CHSAA rules (if applicable), conference or league policies, and the School’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Mission
• Learn the mission of the school and how it applies to Athletics
• Represent the school positively at practice, at home and away sporting events, and related activities
• Represent the school and its mission to students, parents, colleagues, and the general public
• Support student-athletes and demonstrate understanding and commitment to their success
• Compliance
• Ensure players adhere to CHSAA rules (if applicable) and league rules; assist in ensuring the program meets league and CHSAA regulations
• Attend required training and a Coaching Orientation once per year
• Maintain equipment inventory and perform checks at season end
• Maintain CPR/First Aid certification and complete annual trainings (Concussion, Mandatory Reporter, Student Mental Health, etc.)
• Assist Head Coach in issuing and tracking school competition uniforms
• Follow safety protocols for practices, games, and facility use
• Communication & Events
• Work cooperatively with school staff and Administration
• Attend required trainings or meetings arranged by the Athletic Director
• Attend a mandatory parent meeting each season
• Coordinate communications with the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and parents about discipline or behavior concerns
• Notify parents and the Health office when athletes sustain injuries
• Attend the Athletic Honors event for your sport and assist with speeches and awards as appropriate
• Discuss athletic expense requests with the Head Coach and Athletic Director
• Provide channels for student and community feedback

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred) with administrative and/or coaching experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal abilities; solid knowledge of CHSAA and conference league rules and procedures

Experience

Experience in sports management or coaching.

Physical Requirements

Typical working environment and physical demands as part of athletic activities, including exposure to outdoor conditions, movement, and occasional heavy lifting as needed for equipment and supplies.
