Vikan Middle School in the Denver metro area is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Band/Orchestra Director to lead and support our music program during an extended leave. This is a full-time, temporary position through approximately December 15, 2026.

Qualifications

• Colorado teaching license or substitute license.
• Colorado Department of Education In Field endorsement or qualifications to teach the posted subject area.
• Ability to handle many complex tasks simultaneously.
• Interest in being part of a high-functioning team.
• Willingness to learn continuously and adapt to changing circumstances.

Responsibilities

• Lead engaging band and/or orchestra instruction for middle school students.
• Build positive relationships with students and create an inclusive, respectful classroom.
• Continue established curriculum, rehearsal routines, and performance prep.
• Develop students' musical skills, ensemble techniques, and literacy.
• Prepare students for concerts and school/community events.
• Collaborate with music colleagues, classroom teachers, school leaders, and families.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and productive rehearsal environment.
• Provide feedback to help students recognize growth and opportunities to improve.
