Collegium Charter School is seeking a qualified, seasonal Assistant Cheer Coach for the Middle School level. The role includes leadership and mentoring, with responsibility for maintaining sportsmanship and high standards within the school community.

This is a part-time season position with a stipend at season end and no benefits. The coach will work under the Director of Athletics and collaborate with other coaches, staff, and families to support student-athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Observe governing rules and participate in leadership and team management.
  • Lead daily practices, skills development, and character development.
  • Stay current with coaching theories and techniques in the sport.
  • Collaborate with athletic director and other coaches and student manager.
  • Maintain relationships with coaches, administrators, students, parents, and community.
  • Evaluate players, select rosters, and manage equipment.

Title: Athletic Coach

Reports To: Director of Athletics

Employee Type: Season: Part-Time; Dependent upon sport; Stipend at End of Season; No Benefits

Summary

Collegium Charter School (CCS) is seeking a qualified, seasonal Assistant Cheer Coach candidate for the Middle School level. Successful candidates will have knowledge of cheer and will demonstrate effective coaching technique, leadership and mentoring skills; the ability to relate well within the school community; and the desire to provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and high standards. Qualified candidates will enhance the School's commitment to diversity and inclusivity and will be committed to the School's Vision and Mission.

Job Responsibilities
  • Observe the rules of the PIAA, PIAA District 1, and the Bicentennial Athletic League (BAL)
  • Provide leadership and general team management in the areas of daily practice, skills, and character development
  • Remain current with theories and techniques in their sport
  • Attend all coaches' meetings and collaborate with athletic director, head coach and assistant coach(es) and student manager
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, athletic administrators, students, parent body, and the community
  • Evaluate and assess players' skills and select team rosters
  • Responsible for team equipment
  • Keep the scorebook current and available
  • Preferred - clean driving record and ability to drive a 9-passenger van
  • Report areas of concern immediately to Athletic Directors - fields, transportation, facilities, opposing teams, student behavior, parent issues, etc.
  • Initiate appropriate and regular communication with student-athletes and parents
  • Follow school procedures regarding transportation, injuries, participation, meals
  • Report and follow up with athletic trainer about injuries
  • Write and submit individual comments on each student as scheduled
  • Manage athletes at the appropriate level of the assigned sport
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress and academic advisement
  • Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct
  • Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
  • Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records
  • Abides by the CCS Employee Manual and all current PA Public School expectations
Required Qualifications
  • High school or collegiate playing experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • A positive student-centered approach to coaching
  • A strong character with a team-oriented spirit, and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community
  • Considerable knowledge of and experience coaching, including competitions, practices, and strength/conditioning
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Experience working with middle and high school-aged students
  • Strong affinity for the mission of Collegium Charter School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school's mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior cheer coaching experience, preferably at the high school and/or college level
  • Experience working with middle and high school-aged students
  • Demonstrated technical, theoretical, and applied knowledge pertinent to the assigned sport
  • Drivers License and the ability to drive a 9 passenger vehicle
  • CPR and First Aid certified
  • Availability Monday - Friday 3:30 - 5:00pm, Games will vary; No weekends
Required Upon Hire
  • Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance Act 34, Child Abuse Clearance Act 151, and FBI Fingerprint Clearance Act 114, all dated within one year of anticipated start date
  • Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School
  • First Aid Certified
