Job summary

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a Middle School Alliance (MSA) Bilingual Intake Specialist to provide recruitment and intake support at assigned middle schools in Virginia. On-site 4-7pm, Mon-Thu, with occasional extra hours for recruitment and visits.

You will engage families, support attendance tracking, and help with program operations and youth engagement. Fluent in English and Spanish; you will collaborate with school staff and community partners to promote inclusive access

Job Overview

The Middle School Alliance (MSA) Bilingual Intake Specialist will provide recruitment and intake support, liaise with parents and support afterschool programming at assigned middle school sites. The Specialist will assist with sign in and site programming, family engagement, recruitment and intakes. The Specialist will be on site from 4-7pm Monday through Thursday with 2-3 additional hours some weeks for recruitment and intakes both on site and home visits, as assigned by the MSA Coordinator.

Major Responsibilities
Site Operation Support
  • MSA Coordinator with students signing in and enforcing program and school rules.
  • Assist with snack distribution, dismissal procedures, and site transitions.
  • Assist with events, special activities, and school-based initiatives.
  • Assist in administering program evaluations.
Student Recruitment & Family Engagement Support
  • student recruitment and enrollment efforts.
  • Support outreach and engagement efforts for students, families, teachers, and school personnel.
  • Assist with family communication regarding programming schedules, attendance expectations, transportation updates, and special events.
  • Promote inclusive access to OST opportunities and support student participation across diverse student populations.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with youth and families to encourage consistent engagement and participation.
  • Support implementation of student and family engagement activities throughout the school year.
Program Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, training, and quality improvement activities as time allows.
  • Support program providers in creating safe, engaging, and youth-centered learning environments.
  • Communicate concerns related to quality, consistency, youth engagement, or operational effectiveness to MSA leadership.
  • Gather and communicate feedback from youth, families, providers, and school staff to support continuous improvement.
Relationship Management & Communication
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with school administrators, teachers, providers, families, community partners, and youth.
  • Represent NextUp and the MSA professionally within school communities and partner spaces.
Safety, Supervision & Risk Management
  • Assist in ensuring students are properly supervised during transitions, programming, transportation, and dismissal.
  • Maintain awareness of site safety concerns and communicate incidents promptly to MSA leadership.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred in education, youth development, nonprofit management, public administration, social work, or a related field *or equivalent experience.
  • Up to 2 years of related experience in youth development, education, after-school programming, or community-based programming.
  • Proficient in English and Spanish, both spoken and written.
  • Experience working with middle school youth, school communities, or after-school programming strongly preferred.
  • Experience with attendance tracking, data systems, and reporting processes preferred.
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility for other staff.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and function effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to solve problems, adapt, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Positive Youth Development and youth engagement practices preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality implementation.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism in school and community settings.

Working Environment Primarily an in-person, school-based environment across assigned middle school sites, with standard office/administrative time for planning and reporting. This position is expected to end on June 4, 2027.

Compensation: (Pay Rate: $22.75-$24.20/hr). Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
