Job summary

Sweeping Corporation of America is seeking a Mid-Shift Diesel Mechanic Lead to manage a shop, supervise a team of mechanics, and ensure the fleet remains safe and reliable. This full-time position offers complex diagnostics, in-shop and field repairs, and leadership responsibilities across the shift.

The role requires strong knowledge of diesel systems, hydraulics, electricals, and proactive maintenance planning to minimize downtime and maximize equipment readiness for daily operations.

  • Experience: 5 years hands-on in a shop with hydraulic, electrical, and air systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety inspections of machinery, engines, and hydraulics to ensure safe operation.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs, prioritize work orders, and mentor junior staff.
  • Operate and test sweepers and heavy equipment, coordinating shop activities and documentation.
  • Maintain logs, communicate repair status, and ensure compliance with policies.

JOB TITLE: Mid-Shift Diesel Mechanic Lead – Full-Time

LOCATION: Dallas, TX

HOURS: 2nd Shift (3:00PM-12:30AM)

COMPENSATION: $25- $38/ Hour - Eligible for First Pay Increase at 6 Months

TRAVEL: Minimal (1-10%)

Your daily impact:

As our next Lead Diesel Mechanic, you'll serve as the leader of the shop, ensuring our fleet remains safe, reliable, and ready to serve the communities that depend on us. In addition to performing advanced diagnostics and repairs, you'll prioritize work orders, coordinate daily shop activities, mentor mechanics and shop helpers, communicate with branch leadership, and help ensure repairs are completed efficiently with minimal downtime.

The job responsibilities below outline the core duties and expectations of a position, providing clarity on how the role supports Company goals.   • Safety & Inspection: Lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment. Conduct and oversee thorough inspections of machinery, engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems to ensure all equipment is in safe working condition. Monitor for signs of wear, fluid leaks, or other mechanical issues and address them before they lead to safety risks or breakdowns.
  • Execution: Assemble and build machines or mechanical components according to specifications, ensuring precision and compliance with torque and sequence standards. Perform both in-shop and field repairs with a focus on maximizing equipment performance and long-term reliability. Tackle complex repairs with efficiency and attention to detail while mentoring junior mechanics on proper procedures.
  • Equipment Operation: Use diagnostic tools, software, and heavy equipment systems to test and evaluate equipment performance. Operate and troubleshoot heavy equipment, including sweepers, loaders, and backhoes, safely and effectively during repair and testing processes.
  • Material Handling: Safely manage parts, tools, lubricants, and fluids used during repairs and maintenance. Apply correct handling procedures when working with mechanical components, hydraulic systems, and other specialized materials to ensure both safety :and operational integrity.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Immediately report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns and accurately complete required logs and paperwork.
  • Professional Communication: Communicate maintenance needs, best practices, repair status, and scheduling updates clearly with equipment operators, supervisors, and team members.
  • Compliance & Accountability: Adhere to company policies and industry regulations, completing all required service reports, safety checklists, and compliance documentation accurately and on time.
  • Adaptability & Reliability: Respond effectively to unexpected equipment issues, troubleshoot and problem-solve collaboratively, and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
Compensation:

This posting represents multiple levels within our Mechanic career path. The level and corresponding pay will be determined based on the candidate’s relevant experience, license(s), certifications, and overall qualifications. The anticipated pay range for this posting is $25–$38/hour. Candidates may be considered for Shop Mechanic, Senior Shop Mechanic, or Shop Mechanic Lead based on their qualifications and the needs of the role.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Minimum job qualifications define the essential skills, experience, and abilities needed to succeed in the role. They set the baseline for hiring but may evolve as the job and business requirements change:

  • Education: High School or GED
  • Experience: 5 years of hands‑on experience in a shop environment working with hydraulic, electrical, and air pressure systems. – heavy equipment, waste, & recycling services experience preferred
  • License: Driver’s License, CDL preferred
  • Tools: Must provide and maintain basic hand and diagnostic tools necessary to perform the job
  • Age: Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Compliance: Must maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, background check, DOT physical, and drug screening in accordance with Company policy and applicable law.

  • Safety & Compliance: Consistently follow safety procedures, conduct required inspections, operate equipment responsibly, and comply with all traffic, site, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Execution & Reliability: Plan and execute work efficiently and accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain regular, dependable attendance.
  • Mechanical & Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers) safely and accurately.
  • Communication & Accountability: Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors and team members, represent the Company appropriately, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work Environment & Exposure: Constant work outdoors with regular exposure to weather, elements, and traffic; occasional exposure to loud noise, dust/debris, and jarring conditions; limited exposure to chemicals.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent sitting and walking/standing; occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling; limited stair climbing and crawling; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs at varying heights, including overhead.
  • Cognitive & Sensory Requirements: Continuous reading, screen use, mental focus, and hand-eye coordination throughout the workday.
  • Equipment & Tools: Operation of specialized equipment and use of hand controls, foot controls, and fine motor skills.
  • Safety & Protective Gear: Required use of appropriate PPE, including high‑visibility apparel, eye, ear, hand, foot, head, lung, and skin protection.
