Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of fabrication and machining technology experience.

  • Engineering and technical drawing interpretation knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of aerospace fabrication and assembly processes to support metallic fabrication R&D strategies.
  • Design, develop, verify, apply, and implement experimental fabrication technologies.
  • Support cross-functional teams and capture cost/weight savings; assist in tech planning.
  • Research, design, develop and analyze materials and processes for aero systems.
  • Develop and apply material properties, processing methods, and quality specs for metallic fabrication.
  • Review drawings for conformance and assist in root-cause analysis of failures.
  • Implement concepts, analyze prototypes, and ensure compliance with requirements and regulations.
  • Facilitate tech implementation in production and support user communities.
  • Evaluate feasibility of new design and fabrication techniques; solve issues in manufacturing.
  • Oversee fabrication of test parts and assist with lab machining assets sustainment; provide programming support.

Location and Business Units

This role is at Boeing Wichita, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting both Boeing Wichita’s Commercial and Defense Business Units. Boeing Wichita Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. The core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions. Boeing Wichita Defense supports a wide variety of defense-focused projects for numerous defense customers, with an emphasis on aerostructures.

Position Overview

The Advanced Metals Research & Technology team is looking for an Engineering Technical Analyst with extensive machining experience to guide fabrication activities in support of multiple commercial and defense research projects. In this role you will work with engineering teams, materials & process teams, and program teams, to collaboratively guide technical solutions from the lab to the factory floor.

Position Responsibilities
  • Apply knowledge of aerospace mechanical/structural component fabrication and assembly processes and technologies to support metallic fabrication research and development strategies and plans.
  • Design, develop, verify, apply, and implement experimental technologies and improvements to established fabrication technologies.
  • Support multi-functional teams in the above effort, coordinate the identification and capture of cost and weight savings, and assist in strategic technology planning.
  • Research, design, develop and analyze materials, tools, products, and their related fabrication and assembly processes to develop and optimize for use in engineering design of and/or application in aero systems structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Develop, analyze, and apply material properties and design allowables, processing methods, and quality engineering specifications and standards to metallic fabrication projects.
  • Review engineering drawings and documents for part conformance and assist in resolving part failure analysis for fabrication, assembly and in-service problems.
  • Implement concepts and designs, analyze prototype systems, equipment, and processes, and verify compliance with customer requirements, company policy, procedures and guidelines, and governmental regulations.
  • Facilitate technology implementation in production and provide support to the user community.
  • Determine the feasibility of new design, modeling, and fabrication techniques, as well as investigate and analyze problems to restore the quality and functionality of products and processes.
  • Oversee fabrication of test parts and components in support of metallic fabrication research projects.
  • Assist with programming and sustainment of lab machining assets.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • 5 to 8 years of related experience with fabrication and machining technology.
  • Familiarity with fabrication and machining of high‑temperature metal alloys.
  • 5 to 8 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with CATIA or other equivalent CAD programs.
  • Engineering and technical drawing interpretation knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience utilizing various Microsoft Office Suite applications, such as Office 365, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams and Visio.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes, procedures and specifications.
  • 3+ years’ experience in project management, developing and sustaining large complex projects.
  • Experience with NC programming highly preferred, supporting coupon‑level work and subscale prototypes.
  • Experience with hard metal machining, high‑temperature alloys.
  • Understanding of metallurgical terminology and concepts.
  • Ability to quickly familiarize with factory manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Catia V5 highly preferred.
  • Experience working with a multi‑functional team on technical manufacturing projects.
  • Experience working in a research and development environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and seek creative metallic fabrication solutions.

Summary Pay Range: $78,100 – $119,700.
