Job summary

LJB Inc. is seeking a Mid-level Structural Engineer to join its Safety practice in Houston, TX. You will analyze, design, and lead fall protection projects, coordinating with the team to deliver safe and compliant engineering solutions.

You will travel 50–75% to client sites and support documentation, calculations, and project coordination while advancing your expertise in OSHA/ANSI standards and industry codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, architectural, or mechanical engineering.
• 5+ years in engineering with fall protection or structural design experience preferred.
• CAD experience with Revit and Bluebeam is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Document existing conditions to add fall protection systems.
• Analyze structural components to support fall protection.
• Develop layouts for fall protection addressing client needs.
• Prepare calculations and assist construction documents.
• Coordinate with design staff for accurate drawings and documentation.

We are looking to fill the role of a Mid-level Structural Engineer to work for our Safety practice in our Houston, Texas office. The Mid-level Structural Engineer will analyze, design, plan, and create structural components and systems as they lead fall protection design projects for LJB clients.

Salary Range: $106,000 - $140,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Mid-level Structural Engineer Essential Functions

• Documents existing conditions as needed to accommodate additions of fall protection systems, including fixed platforms, fall arrest anchorages, and horizontal lifelines.
• Analysis of building components used to support fall protection systems, including structural steel framing, cold‑formed steel framing, and cast‑in‑place concrete.
• Develop a layout of fall protection systems to address customer needs and coordinate with the existing structure.
• Prepares calculations detailing engineering design.
• Assists with the preparation of construction documents.
• Coordinates with design staff to ensure accurate document and drawing production.
• Perform tasks within Revit and other CAD to execute assigned engineering tasks.
• May coordinate projects by communicating with clients regarding project issues and attending meetings.
• Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completing various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending in‑house systems/management training (LJB provided).

Additional Responsibilities And Duties

• Willingness to travel (overnight stays based on supported projects) to various US‑based locations. (50 to 75% travel)
• Understanding/Training in OSHA/ANSI fall protection standards.
• Ability to pass background checks, drug tests, and MVR checks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, architectural, or mechanical engineering (degree with structural emphasis preferred).
• 5+ years of engineering experience (possessing knowledge and experience in the design of structural engineering projects and fall protection preferred).
• CAD experience (Revit and Bluebeam preferred) RAM or other structural analysis software experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Knowledgeable of industry codes and standards such as OSHA 1910 and ANSI Z359.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to traverse worksite in different types of weather and bend, climb, stretch, reach, and lean to perform duties.
• Must meet the weight capacity of design perimeters of fall protection systems (between 130 to 310 lbs.).
• Understands the exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at a time.
