Job summary

LaunchTech is seeking a Mid-Level Platform System Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency under the IRES contract. Based at Schriever Space Force Base, the role focuses on leading a team to develop and implement innovative platform solutions for critical sensing and space-based defense capabilities.

The candidate will contribute across engineering lifecycles, document designs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure security, efficiency, and sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Must have 6+ years of general full-time work experience
  • Must have 3+ years of experience in IT systems engineering/architecture within DoD or DoD-like environments
  • Fundamental understanding of Requirements Analysis and Management
  • Proficient understanding of the System Engineering V-Model and engineering lifecycle
  • Active DoW Secret Security Clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret with SCI eligibility

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design platform solutions for enterprise services, satellite ground systems and operations centers
  • Support all phases of the Engineering Lifecycle from initiation to sustainment
  • Document designs and create implementation and test plans for sustainment teams
  • Collaborate with engineers, cybersecurity, software, network teams and project managers to ensure standards compliance
  • Define tasks and schedules with Project Managers to meet milestones
  • Work independently, take initiative, and drive projects to completion

We are seeking a a highly motivated, independent, and results-oriented Mid-Level Platform System Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. In this role, you will be at the forefront of leading a team in the development and implementation of innovative solutions for critical elements supporting advanced sensing capabilities. You will be instrumental in ensuring efficient, sustainable, and secure command and control of our nation's space-based defense capabilities. What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop and design cutting-edge solutions to optimize efficiency, security, and sustainability within a team supporting Platform MDSEA frameworks
Contribute to Technical Initiatives:
  • Conduct comprehensive studies and analyses, define detailed requirements, engineer preliminary and detailed platform architectures, and oversee system development for enterprise services, satellite ground systems, and operations centers (including supporting facilities)
  • Contribute to all phases of the Engineering Lifecycle: Support projects from initiation through requirements management, task execution, and platform system sustainment
Support Implementation:
  • Document designs and create comprehensive implementation and test plans for execution by sustainment personnel
Collaborate and Integrate:
  • Direct a cohesive partnership within the team and other engineers, system administrators, cybersecurity, test teams, project managers, software developers, network engineers, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and compliance with all relevant standards and policies
Support Program Milestones:
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers to define tasks and schedules
The successful candidate will:
  • Be able to work independently, take initiative, and drive projects to completion with minimal supervision
What You Bring
Basic Requirements:
  • Must have 6, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
    • May be reduced with completion of advanced education
  • Must have 3, or more, years of experience directly related to the support or management of IT systems engineering or architecture role/capacity within a DoD and/or commercial enterprise
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of Requirements Analysis and Management principles
  • Must have a proficient understanding of the System Engineering V-Model and engineering lifecycle
  • Must have an active DoW Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be able obtain an active DoW Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility
Desired Requirements:
  • Have a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a related field (e.g., Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering)
  • Have experience with Linux administration, management, and sustainment
  • Have experience working within the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) or other Department of Defense (DoD) organizations
  • Have competency in developing and editing Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) (or equivalent framework)
  • Be able to logically decompose complex mission systems into manageable components
  • Have experience in developing detailed implementation plans for new solutions and systems
  • Have a track record of effectively troubleshooting and applying critical thinking skills to resolve IT system dependencies, impacts, and sustainability challenges
  • Be familiar with Agile development methodologies
  • Be familiar with cloud computing (server and serverless) technologies (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Red Hat Openshift)
  • Have experience working with SysML and MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler (No Magic), IBM Rhapsody, or Sparx Enterprise Architect
  • Have 1, or more, certifications in relevant areas (e.g., INCOSE ASEP, CompTIA Security+)
