Job summary

Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. is seeking an experienced NC programmer to support multi-axis machining and automate programs for complex aerospace components.

You will analyze blueprints, optimize routines, and coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to tackle producibility challenges. You will leverage CATIA/ENOVIA, Vericut, and post-processor tools to improve efficiency, while reading drawings and 3D models to guide fabrication.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of NC programming experience on multi-axis machines.
  • Experience with composite/non-metallic materials and sheet metal.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides numerical control, machining, and programming technical support.
  • Analyzes blueprints and engineering models to support NC programming.
  • Develops optimized programs to improve efficiency and run time, utilizing new cutter technology and techniques.
  • Plans, creates, verifies, and revises machine control data and documentation that directs operations for numerically controlled machines.
  • Collaborates in a team environment.
  • Implements fabrication, assembly, or installation manufacturing plans by coordinating with suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
  • Coordinates and communicates with engineering teams to influence and clarify design concepts.
  • Optimizes processes and addresses producibility issues as well as production and post-production problems.
  • Understands machine kinematics, G-code programming, multiple machine controllers, CATIA functionality, and develops CATIA scripting and VB macros.
  • Troubleshoots, tests, or develops machine code and post-processor language.

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Position Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Ability to apply process knowledge in areas such as composite non-metallic, electrical/electronics, machining, sheet metal, systems, and structures.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in numerical control (NC) programming, concentrating on multi-axis machines, metallic or composite materials.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Experience with multiple material types.
  • Parts design and wireframe experience.
  • Experience interacting with internal and external manufacturing personnel.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP.
  • Experience with CATIA/ENOVIA.
  • Vericut proficiency.
  • Ability to manage a project from start to finish.
  • Willingness to work cross-functionally.
  • Experience with post-processor development.
  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, or related field (optional).

Join Spirit AeroSystems’ Kansas team and you may be eligible for a $5,000 state of Kansas Aviation tax credit for up to five years.
